HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Pleasant Plains High 
4School girls basketball team for winning the 2020 Class 2A 
5State Championship on February 29; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Competing against a two-time defending state 
7champion, the Cardinals represented the Sangamo Conference at 
8Redbird Arena on the campus of Illinois State University, where 
9they handed the Commandos of Chicago Marshall a loss by a score 
10of 43-37; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, The Pleasant Plains Cardinals finished the season 
12with a record of 28 wins and 3 losses; en route to the 
13championship, Pleasant Plains won six tournament games against 
14Waverly, Auburn, Breese Central, Breese-Mater Dei, Quincy 
15Notre Dame, and Port Byron-Riverdale by holding each opponent 
16to 40 points or less; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, A defensive powerhouse, Pleasant Plains only 
18trailed for little over a minute at the  start of the game when 
19Marshall opened with a three point lead; the Cardinals 
20responded with a six point run and never looked back; and
  
 
21    WHEREAS, Though the leading seniors of this state champion

1Cardinals team previously won an IESA Championship four years 
2ago, the Pleasant Plains girls basketball team won the first 
3state championship in program history, beating the two-time 
4defending state champion Commandos of Chicago Marshall; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Head Coach TJ Fraase, the 
6Pleasant Plains High School girls basketball roster included 
7Ali Fraase, Heidi Hergenrother, Caroline Jachino, Anna 
8Kanllakan, Macy Kanllakan, Emily Long, Teagan Morley, Addy 
9Skeeters, Asya Smith, Macy Ward, and Sammy Willis; therefore, 
10be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
12HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
13we congratulate the Pleasant Plains High School girls 
14basketball team for winning the 2020 IHSA Class 2A State 
15Championship and wish the program future success; and be it

17    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
18presented to Head Coach TJ Fraase and  Pleasant Plains High 
19School Principal Luke Brooks.
