| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to commend the Illinois National Guard, | ||||||
| 4 | under the leadership of Brigadier General Richard R. Neely, for | ||||||
| 5 | their exceptional service during the COVID-19 pandemic and the | ||||||
| 6 | recent turmoil in major cities during the week of May 25 to | ||||||
| 7 | June 1, 2020; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, The Illinois National Guard has served the State | ||||||
| 9 | of Illinois and the nation for nearly 300 years; their | ||||||
| 10 | tradition of service continues to this day with some 13,000 | ||||||
| 11 | Illinois National Guard military men and women ready to serve | ||||||
| 12 | our State or our nation at a moment's notice; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, To support the COVID-19 pandemic response, | ||||||
| 14 | approximately 31,000 U.S. Army and Air National Guard troops | ||||||
| 15 | have been activated nationwide, approximately 650 troops from | ||||||
| 16 | Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, The Illinois National Guard has assisted the State | ||||||
| 18 | and its citizens in combating the novel coronavirus in a number | ||||||
| 19 | of ways; in collaboration with the Army Corps of Engineers, | ||||||
| 20 | they provided support for the conversion of the McCormick Place | ||||||
| 21 | Convention Center in Chicago into an alternate care facility; | ||||||
| 22 | they have provided support to Cook County medical centers in | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | the respectful removal of the deceased; they have provided | ||||||
| 2 | medical screenings at Stateville and Sheridan correctional | ||||||
| 3 | facilities; they have supported logistics for alternate | ||||||
| 4 | housing facilities in Schaumburg, Springfield, and Mount | ||||||
| 5 | Vernon to allow family members to isolate themselves if they do | ||||||
| 6 | not already have the ability to do so to help prevent COVID-19 | ||||||
| 7 | spread within families; they have operated drive-thru testing | ||||||
| 8 | sites, including in Harwood Heights, Markham, and Bloomington; | ||||||
| 9 | they assisted in restoring order during the recent protests in | ||||||
| 10 | major cities; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, All missions the Illinois National Guard have | ||||||
| 12 | supported have been initiated by civilian agencies and in close | ||||||
| 13 | collaboration with Governor JB Pritzker; the Illinois National | ||||||
| 14 | Guard has proven to a stalwart partner in our State's attempts | ||||||
| 15 | to quell the COVID-19 pandemic and maintain order; therefore, | ||||||
| 16 | be it

| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 18 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 19 | we commend the Illinois National Guard for their exceptional | ||||||
| 20 | service during the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent turmoil in | ||||||
| 21 | major cities during the week of May 25 to June 1, 2020; and be | ||||||
| 22 | it further

| 23 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||

| 1 | presented to the Brigadier General Richard R. Neely as an | ||||||
| 2 | expression of our esteem and respect.
