| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate State Representative | ||||||
| 4 | Lindsay A. Parkhurst on her distinguished service to the 79th | ||||||
| 5 | District and the people of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst was born on January 14, | ||||||
| 7 | 1963 to parents, Donald and Betty Parkhurst, and her parents | ||||||
| 8 | instilled the values of community volunteering, philanthropy, | ||||||
| 9 | and promoting community growth; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst met her husband, Marc | ||||||
| 11 | Magiera, in Kankakee, where they still reside and have raised | ||||||
| 12 | their daughter, Lucy; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst attended the University | ||||||
| 14 | of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she received a Bachelor | ||||||
| 15 | of Arts in Honors English; she earned her Juris Doctorate at | ||||||
| 16 | the Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of | ||||||
| 17 | Technology and earned a Master of Law from the DePaul | ||||||
| 18 | University College of Law; and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst was admitted to the | ||||||
| 20 | Illinois Bar in 1989, the United States District Court, | ||||||
| 21 | Northern District of Illinois in 1989, and the United States | ||||||

| 1 | District Court, Central District of Illinois in 2002; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, For 27 years, Representative Parkhurst practiced | ||||||
| 3 | law as both a civil and criminal defense attorney with | ||||||
| 4 | experience in litigation and trial practice, having opened her | ||||||
| 5 | own general practice law office in Kankakee in 2000, as well as | ||||||
| 6 | serving as a Kankakee County Assistant Public Defender for | ||||||
| 7 | juvenile and abuse and neglect cases from 2005 to 2014; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst was elected to the | ||||||
| 9 | Illinois House of Representatives in 2016 and sworn in on | ||||||
| 10 | January 11, 2017; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst was awarded an Edgar | ||||||
| 12 | Fellowship at the University of Illinois Institute of | ||||||
| 13 | Government & Public Affairs in 2017; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, During her time in the legislature, | ||||||
| 15 | Representative Parkhurst advanced key legislation on juvenile | ||||||
| 16 | probation, Mason's Law to protect children, promoted job | ||||||
| 17 | creation, promoted good government through closing conflict of | ||||||
| 18 | interest loopholes and increasing government transparency, and | ||||||
| 19 | addressed the substitute teacher shortage, as well as pursued | ||||||
| 20 | policies to advance child support reforms, fight tax increases, | ||||||
| 21 | and advance local revitalization efforts along the Kankakee | ||||||
| 22 | River; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst has always maintained a | ||||||
| 2 | steadfast commitment to volunteerism and community service, | ||||||
| 3 | having served as president of the Kankakee Society of Women in | ||||||
| 4 | Law, as Social Chair of the Kankakee County Bar Association, as | ||||||
| 5 | Vice Chair of the Two Rivers Area Credit Union, as Board Member | ||||||
| 6 | and grants committee member of the Community Foundation, and as | ||||||
| 7 | Co-chair of the Prairie State Legal Services Fundraising | ||||||
| 8 | Committee in Kankakee, as well as volunteering her time at | ||||||
| 9 | Aquinas Catholic Academy and Bishop McNamara Catholic High | ||||||
| 10 | School and Kankakee Community College for its Lex Paralegal | ||||||
| 11 | Society; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Although Representative Parkhurst is not | ||||||
| 13 | returning to the General Assembly, she is continuing her public | ||||||
| 14 | service as Circuit Judge with the 21st Judicial Circuit of | ||||||
| 15 | Illinois; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 17 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 18 | we thank the Honorable Lindsay A. Parkhurst for her service to | ||||||
| 19 | the constituents of the 79th District and the State of Illinois | ||||||
| 20 | and wish her well in her continued public service to the | ||||||
| 21 | constituents of the 21st Judicial Circuit of Illinois; and be | ||||||
| 22 | it further
