HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate State Representative Lindsay A. Parkhurst on her distinguished service to the 79th District and the people of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst was born on January 14, 1963 to parents, Donald and Betty Parkhurst, and her parents instilled the values of community volunteering, philanthropy, and promoting community growth; and

WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst met her husband, Marc Magiera, in Kankakee, where they still reside and have raised their daughter, Lucy; and

WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Honors English; she earned her Juris Doctorate at the Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology and earned a Master of Law from the DePaul University College of Law; and

WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1989, the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois in 1989, and the United States District Court, Central District of Illinois in 2002; and

WHEREAS, For 27 years, Representative Parkhurst practiced law as both a civil and criminal defense attorney with experience in litigation and trial practice, having opened her own general practice law office in Kankakee in 2000, as well as serving as a Kankakee County Assistant Public Defender for juvenile and abuse and neglect cases from 2005 to 2014; and

WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives in 2016 and sworn in on January 11, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst was awarded an Edgar Fellowship at the University of Illinois Institute of Government & Public Affairs in 2017; and

WHEREAS, During her time in the legislature, Representative Parkhurst advanced key legislation on juvenile probation, Mason's Law to protect children, promoted job creation, promoted good government through closing conflict of interest loopholes and increasing government transparency, and addressed the substitute teacher shortage, as well as pursued policies to advance child support reforms, fight tax increases, and advance local revitalization efforts along the Kankakee River; and

WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst has always maintained a steadfast commitment to volunteerism and community service, having served as president of the Kankakee Society of Women in Law, as Social Chair of the Kankakee County Bar Association, as Vice Chair of the Two Rivers Area Credit Union, as Board Member and grants committee member of the Community Foundation, and as Co-chair of the Prairie State Legal Services Fundraising Committee in Kankakee, as well as volunteering her time at Aquinas Catholic Academy and Bishop McNamara Catholic High School and Kankakee Community College for its Lex Paralegal Society; and

WHEREAS, Although Representative Parkhurst is not returning to the General Assembly, she is continuing her public service as Circuit Judge with the 21st Judicial Circuit of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank the Honorable Lindsay A. Parkhurst for her service to the constituents of the 79th District and the State of Illinois and wish her well in her continued public service to the constituents of the 21st Judicial Circuit of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Representative Parkhurst as an expression of our esteem and respect for our colleague and friend.
