AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 132 




2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 132 as follows:

 
3on page 1, immediately below line 3, by inserting the 
4following:
 
5    "Section 3. The Medical School Curriculum Act is amended  by 
6adding Section 1.5 as follows:
 
7    (110 ILCS 55/1.5 new)
8    Sec. 1.5. Implicit bias training course.
9    (a) In this Section, "implicit bias" means the unconscious 
10attitudes or stereotypes that can affect behaviors, decisions, 
11and actions in the treatment of women and minority groups.
12    (b) In addition to the requirements imposed by Section 1 of 
13this Act, each medical school established, maintained, and 
14operated by this State must include in its curriculum a course 
15on implicit bias training. The goal of the course is to expose

1medical students to their own biases toward certain patient 
2populations and must include instruction on the disparate 
3health care treatment of patient populations, including black 
4women and patients from other minority groups, as a result of 
5implicit bias.".
