Amends the School Code. Provides that a qualified student may take any online course for academic credit if the course (i) aligns with the Illinois Learning Standards, (ii) meets or exceeds the same standards as course offerings of the school district, and (iii) is taught by an instructor who holds a Professional Educator License. Provides that a school district retains the right to deny credit for an online course based on course appropriateness, alignment with the high school curriculum, cost, or student academic progress. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections |
5 | | 10-20.69 and 34-18.61 as follows: |

7 | | Sec. 10-20.69. Equitable course access. A qualified |
8 | | student may take any online course for academic credit if the |
9 | | course (i) aligns with the Illinois Learning Standards, (ii) |
10 | | meets or exceeds the same standards as course offerings of the |
11 | | school district, and (iii) is taught by an instructor who holds |
12 | | a Professional Educator License under Article 21B. A school |
13 | | district retains the right to deny credit for an online course |
14 | | under this Section based on course appropriateness, alignment |
