AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1641 




2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 1641 by replacing 
3line 3 on page 3 through line 7 on page 4 with the following:

 
4    "(305 ILCS 5/12-4.13c new)
5    Sec. 12-4.13c. SNAP eligibility notification; college 
6students.
7    (a) To complement student financial assistance programs 
8and to enhance their effectiveness for students with financial 
9need, the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) shall 
10annually include information about the Supplemental Nutrition 
11Assistance Program (SNAP) in the language that schools are 
12required to provide to students eligible for the Monetary Award 
13Program grant. The language shall, at a minimum, direct 
14students to information about college student eligibility 
15criteria for SNAP, and it shall direct students to the 
16Department of Human Services and to the Illinois Hunger 
17Coalition's Hunger Hotline for additional information.

1    (b) Illinois institutions of higher education that 
2participate in the Monetary Award Program (MAP) shall provide 
3the notice described in subsection (a) to all students who are 
4enrolled, or who are accepted for enrollment and intending to 
5enroll,  and who have been identified by ISAC as MAP-eligible at 
6the institution.  If possible, the institution may designate a 
7public benefits liaison or single point person to assist 
8students in taking the necessary steps to obtain public 
9benefits if eligible. 
10    (c) ISAC shall adopt any rules necessary to implement the 
11provisions of this Section on or before October 1, 2020.".
