2 | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
| ||||||
3 | Assembly pays honor and respect to those individuals who have
| ||||||
4 | given their lives in service to their communities; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, On March 28, 2019, at approximately 11:24 a.m., | ||||||
6 | Trooper Brooke Jones-Story, #5966, was inspecting a commercial | ||||||
7 | motor vehicle on U.S. Route 20 westbound, just west of Illinois | ||||||
8 | Route 75 in Stephenson County; at approximately 12:20 p.m., she | ||||||
9 | was outside her squad car when she was struck and fatally | ||||||
10 | wounded when a truck tractor semi-trailer combination struck | ||||||
11 | her squad car and the semi she was inspecting; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Trooper Jones-Story was born to Mark and Carol | ||||||
13 | (Myers) Jones in Monroe, Wisconsin on March 3, 1985; she grew | ||||||
14 | up in Stockton, where she attended Warren High School; she | ||||||
15 | received her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the | ||||||
16 | University of Wisconsin Parkside in 2006; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Trooper Jones-Story loved her family and her high | ||||||
18 | school and college volleyball teams; she always had a passion | ||||||
19 | for service and committed herself to becoming a trooper; when | ||||||
20 | she was not working, she could be found working with rescue | ||||||
21 | animals on her farm, cheering for the Cubs, working out with | ||||||
22 | her CrossFit family, and watching all the Disney movies she |

1 | could find; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Trooper Jones-Story began her career with the | ||||||
3 | Illinois State Police (ISP) in June of 2007 as a member of | ||||||
4 | Cadet Class 115; upon her graduation from the ISP Academy, she | ||||||
5 | was assigned to District 16 in Pecatonica, where she remained | ||||||
6 | for the duration of her career; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Throughout her career with the ISP, Trooper | ||||||
8 | Jones-Story was recognized for her hard work, positive | ||||||
9 | attitude, and for being a rising leader among her peers; she | ||||||
10 | married retired Master Sergeant Robert Story on October 13, | ||||||
11 | 2012 in Galena; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Trooper Jones-Story was preceded in death by her | ||||||
13 | paternal grandparents, Gladys and Delvin Jones, and her | ||||||
14 | maternal grandfather, Richard Myers; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Trooper Jones-Story is survived by her parents, | ||||||
16 | Mark and Carol Jones; her sister, Lindsey Jones; her brother, | ||||||
17 | Nicholas Jones; her husband, Robert Story Jr.; her | ||||||
18 | stepchildren, Brittany (Bryan) Iwaszkiw and Rachel Story; her | ||||||
19 | grandchild, Ella Iwaszkiw; and her maternal grandmother, | ||||||
20 | Delores Myers; therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |

1 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES | ||||||
2 | CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate U.S. Route 20 westbound, | ||||||
3 | just west of Illinois Route 75 in Stephenson County, as the | ||||||
4 | "Trooper Brooke Jones-Story Memorial Highway"; and be it | ||||||
5 | further | ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
| ||||||
7 | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
| ||||||
8 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
| ||||||
9 | giving notice of the name
"Trooper Brooke Jones-Story Memorial | ||||||
10 | Highway"; and be it further
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to the family of Trooper Jones-Story and the | ||||||
13 | Secretary of Transportation.
