| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Marion Elizabeth Simon Leonaitis, who |
| 4 | | passed away on December 15, 2018; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Marion Leonaitis was born in Stacyville, Iowa to |
| 6 | | Joseph and Christina (Halfman) Simon on June 12, 1922; she |
| 7 | | graduated from Visitation Catholic School and completed |
| 8 | | nursing school at the St. Joseph Mercy College of Nursing; she |
| 9 | | served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a registered |
| 10 | | nurse; she was stationed at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Seattle |
| 11 | | and was honorable discharged at the rank of lieutenant; she |
| 12 | | married Stanley Leonaitis at St. Bartholomew Church in Waukegan |
| 13 | | on August 31, 1957; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, After the war, Marion Leonaitis took a position at |
| 15 | | the Wood V.A. hospital in Milwaukee; she then worked for the |
| 16 | | V.A. hospital in Chicago; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Marion Leonaitis was especially loved for her |
| 18 | | bacon buns, which were baked from scratch and always the first |
| 19 | | item to sell out at every St. Bartholomew's Mothers Club bake |
| 20 | | sale; she volunteered with local Right to Life groups after she |
| 21 | | retired; she was most recently a parishioner of St. Raphael the |
| 22 | | Archangel Catholic Church in Old Mill Creek; she was an avid |
