SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Alvin Ralph "Al" Lee, who passed away on
4January 1, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Al Lee was born in Gary, Indiana to Robert E. and
6Emma Jenkins Lee on May 5, 1934; he graduated from Roosevelt
7High School in 1952 and received an athletic scholarship to
8Michigan State University, where he was a member of the 1953
9National Collegiate Football Champions, the 1953 and 1954 Big
10Ten Conference champions, and Rose Bowl Collegiate Football
11Champions; he was captain of special teams in the 1956 Rose
12Bowl; he was member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and
13graduated in 1956 with a degree in economics; he enlisted in
14the United States Army in 1957 and rose to the rank of
15lieutenant; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Al Lee continued his education by participating in
17the Division of Technical Institute at Purdue University, the
18Executive Management Program at Pennsylvania State University,
19the General Motors' Dealer Development Program, and the Ford
20Motor Company Dealer Training Program; he also attended the
21Executive Program at the Graduate School of Business at the
22University of Chicago and received his M.B.A. from The
23University of Chicago; and

1    WHEREAS, Al Lee worked at numerous automotive dealerships
2including, Bob Neal Pontiac-Toyota and Bonnie Brook Sales,
3where he was the sole-owner, dealer, and president; he later
4operated Chatham Ridge Ford, Bear County Ford, Landmark Ford,
5Marina Ford, and Steel City Ford; he served as Dealer Principal
6of Prestige Ford Sales and Service; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Al Lee was a member of the Vice President of the
8United States' Committee on Youth Motivation and Chairman of
9The Executive Program at the University of Chicago Graduate
10School of Business; he also served as treasurer for Water Tower
11Place Associates with the Urban Investment and Development
12Company, on the alumni board for the Executive Program at the
13University of Chicago, as advisor to the president at the
14University of Illinois, as a member of the Mortgage Banking
15Board for the State of Illinois, and as a board member for the
16Rainbow/PUSH Coalition; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Al Lee worked with Mayor Harold Washington, Eugene
18Sawyer, and the Eighth Ward Regular Democratic Organization; he
19served as deputy comptroller of the Forest Preserve District of
20Cook County; after retiring, he spent his days at the South
21Side YMCA; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Al Lee is survived by his wife, Bessie; his sons,

1Alvin Marc (Pamela) and David (Lisa); his grandchildren,
2Anthony, Aaron, Faith, and Solomon; his great-grandchildren,
3Theodore, Vivian, and Augustus; his siblings, James (Marsha),
4Shirley (James), Irma, Yvonne (Charles), Lawrence (Willa), and
5Horace; his nieces, Niki D'Hana, Anna Charles, and Valarie; his
6nephews, Eric and Jasen; and numerous other relatives and
7friends; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Alvin Ralph "Al" Lee and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Alvin Lee as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
