SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Irma L. Jones, who passed away on January 11, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Irma Jones was born in Grenada, Mississippi to Dump and Ruby Jones on December 31, 1944; she was baptized at an early age at Brick Academy Missionary Baptist Church in Grenada, where she also taught Sunday School and sang in the choir; later in life, she joined the Church of the Living God PGT #1 under the leadership of Overseer Thomas E. Walker; she followed his leadership and became a disciple of the Main Street Church of the Living God; she was an active member and served as Chaplain of the Women's Mission Ministry, President of the Culinary Ministry, and as Pastor's Aide Vice President; and

WHEREAS, Irma Jones volunteered at Youth with a Positive Direction, where she served and cooked meals for the youth, young adults, adults, and volunteers; she was also a member of the board and served as treasurer; and

WHEREAS, Irma Jones loved her church family and spent many hours at church; and

WHEREAS, Irma Jones was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Tom Jones and Eddie Lee Garrett; her sisters, Dora Lee Craig and Beatrice Worthy; and her sister-in-law, Lula Mae Jones; and

WHEREAS, Irma Jones is survived by her children, Leatrice Jones, Barry Jones, Lisa Jones, Letrisa Jones, and Kervin (Vanessa) Jones; her grandchildren, Deatrice (Adrian Harrison) Jones, Dara (Keith) Halliburton, Donntrisa Jones, Roderick (Shivita) Jones, Tionas Williams, Thesis Jones, Demarcus (Gela) Jones, Bradley Jones, Josh Jones, Raji Jones, Honore Holmes; her 20 great-grandchildren; her great-great-grandchild; her sisters, Luvenia (Tommie) Love, Joyce (Larry) Clark, Maxine (Rick) Nixon, Denise Smith-Hankey, Ann Thomas, and Debra Thomas; her brothers, Sell Jones, Gregory (Dorothy) Jones and Anthony Garrett; her godchildren, Ken White, Dr. Julius Bailey, and Kenneth (Shelith) Hansbro and their family; her special friend, Josphine Bisch; her many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her many children and grandchildren throughout the community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Irma L. Jones and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Irma Jones as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
