2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of James "Jamie" MaGirl of Cape Coral, |
4 | | Florida, formerly of Bloomington, who passed away on January |
5 | | 16, 2019; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Jamie MaGirl was born at Brokaw Hospital in Normal |
7 | | to Willis and Mary Lou MaGirl on April 12, 1939; he graduated |
8 | | from Bloomington High School and Rollins College in Winter |
9 | | Park, Florida; he served in the Illinois Air National Guard |
10 | | 183rd Tactical Fighter Group in Springfield; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Jamie MaGirl was the owner of MaGirl Supply |
12 | | Company; the business was founded by his great-grandfather in |
13 | | 1892 and operated as a family business in Bloomington until it |
14 | | was sold in 1994; he retired in 2004; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Jamie MaGirl was a member of the Young Men's Club, |
16 | | a charter member of many social and professional organizations, |
17 | | including the Bloomington Normal Ski Club; he was a retired |
18 | | director of the former American State Bank; he maintained a |
19 | | membership in the McLean County Museum of History; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, After his retirement, Jamie MaGirl moved to Cape |
21 | | Coral, Florida, where he married Janet Prillaman at Captiva |

1 | | Island on June 3, 2006; in Florida, he was a member and elder |
2 | | of Faith Presbyterian Church and a member of the Southwest |
3 | | Florida Yacht Club; he was also a valued volunteer at Edison |
4 | | Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers, where he portrayed Thomas |
5 | | Edison as living history for 13 years; he was a fan of the |
6 | | Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Cubs; a lifelong racing |
7 | | enthusiast, he attended 56 Indianapolis 500 and 24 Brickyard |
8 | | 400 races; he was a pilot and enjoyed tennis, golf, and |
9 | | boating; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Jamie MaGirl was preceded in death by his parents; |
11 | | his sister, Joanne Arnold; and his daughter, Melissa MaGirl |
12 | | Bouwer; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Jamie MaGirl is survived by his wife, Janet; his |
14 | | stepsons, Evan (Kristi) Gibbons and Andrew (Meghan) Gibbons; |
15 | | his son-in-law, Reiner Bouwer; his nine grandchildren; his |
16 | | brother-in-law, Don Arnold; his niece, Cynthia (Jeff) Bowen; |
17 | | his nephew, James (Sherry) Arnold; and his great-niece and |
18 | | three great-nephews; therefore, be it

19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
20 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
21 | | James "Jamie" MaGirl and extend our sincere condolences to his |
22 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
