SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lesley White of Chicago; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Lesley White was born in Chicago to Charles
5Clifton White and Lattie Lee Warr on May 23 1932; he was the
6fifth of sixth children; his mother passed away when he was
7four, and his father then married Seola Fambro; from that
8union, he gained a brother and a sister; he attended
9Forrestville Elementary School and graduated from Dunbar High
10School; after graduation, he served in the United States Army
11during the Korean War; he received the National Defense Service
12Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service
13Ribbon; he attained the rank of Master Sergeant and retired
14with honorable discharge on May 23, 1992; he married Aretha
15Deloris Knox; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Lesley White worked as a taxi driver and a
17bartender; he then became a crib keeper with the Chicago Water
18Department and retired after 21 years of service; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Lesley White had an interest in politics and his
20grandchildren's education; he served as precinct captain for
21several years; he also served on the Local School Council and
22as president of the Scott Joplin Elementary School for ten

1years; he joined the Morning Star Baptist Church of Chicago in
21980; in 1990, he was ordained as a deacon and shortly
3thereafter became the chairman of the Deacon Board; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Lesley White was preceded in death by his
5daughter, Carolyn Lorraine White; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lesley White is survived by his wife of 63 years,
7Aretha; his grandchildren, Bertina, Anita, and Rev.
8Christopher (C.C.); his great-grandchildren, Akeyra, Artese,
9and Caleb; his special grandchildren, Marvin Stinson, Tichina
10Garner, Dylan Hammond, and Jayla Rounds; his special children,
11Rev. Keith B. (Felicia) Hayes and the Hayes family; his sister
12and cousin, Dorthy (Mitchell) McBride and Barbara Patsy White;
13his sisters-in-law, Harriett Turner, Ruth (Marvell) Hudson,
14Dorothy Knox, May White, and Choon Ja "Peggy" White; his
15special cousins, Inell King and Tommy (Blanch) Maxwell; his
16many godchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends of the family;
17and his Morning Star, Starlight St. James, and True Light
18Church families; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Lesley White and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
22friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

3deepest sympathy.
