2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Lesley White of Chicago; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Lesley White was born in Chicago to Charles |
5 | | Clifton White and Lattie Lee Warr on May 23 1932; he was the |
6 | | fifth of sixth children; his mother passed away when he was |
7 | | four, and his father then married Seola Fambro; from that |
8 | | union, he gained a brother and a sister; he attended |
9 | | Forrestville Elementary School and graduated from Dunbar High |
10 | | School; after graduation, he served in the United States Army |
11 | | during the Korean War; he received the National Defense Service |
12 | | Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service |
13 | | Ribbon; he attained the rank of Master Sergeant and retired |
14 | | with honorable discharge on May 23, 1992; he married Aretha |
15 | | Deloris Knox; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Lesley White worked as a taxi driver and a |
17 | | bartender; he then became a crib keeper with the Chicago Water |
18 | | Department and retired after 21 years of service; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Lesley White had an interest in politics and his |
20 | | grandchildren's education; he served as precinct captain for |
21 | | several years; he also served on the Local School Council and |
22 | | as president of the Scott Joplin Elementary School for ten |

1 | | years; he joined the Morning Star Baptist Church of Chicago in |
2 | | 1980; in 1990, he was ordained as a deacon and shortly |
3 | | thereafter became the chairman of the Deacon Board; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Lesley White was preceded in death by his |
5 | | daughter, Carolyn Lorraine White; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Lesley White is survived by his wife of 63 years, |
7 | | Aretha; his grandchildren, Bertina, Anita, and Rev. |
8 | | Christopher (C.C.); his great-grandchildren, Akeyra, Artese, |
9 | | and Caleb; his special grandchildren, Marvin Stinson, Tichina |
10 | | Garner, Dylan Hammond, and Jayla Rounds; his special children, |
11 | | Rev. Keith B. (Felicia) Hayes and the Hayes family; his sister |
12 | | and cousin, Dorthy (Mitchell) McBride and Barbara Patsy White; |
13 | | his sisters-in-law, Harriett Turner, Ruth (Marvell) Hudson, |
14 | | Dorothy Knox, May White, and Choon Ja "Peggy" White; his |
15 | | special cousins, Inell King and Tommy (Blanch) Maxwell; his |
16 | | many godchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends of the family; |
17 | | and his Morning Star, Starlight St. James, and True Light |
18 | | Church families; therefore, be it

19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
20 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
21 | | Lesley White and extend our sincere condolences to his family, |
22 | | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
