SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lesley White of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Lesley White was born in Chicago to Charles Clifton White and Lattie Lee Warr on May 23 1932; he was the fifth of sixth children; his mother passed away when he was four, and his father then married Seola Fambro; from that union, he gained a brother and a sister; he attended Forrestville Elementary School and graduated from Dunbar High School; after graduation, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War; he received the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service Ribbon; he attained the rank of Master Sergeant and retired with honorable discharge on May 23, 1992; he married Aretha Deloris Knox; and

WHEREAS, Lesley White worked as a taxi driver and a bartender; he then became a crib keeper with the Chicago Water Department and retired after 21 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Lesley White had an interest in politics and his grandchildren's education; he served as precinct captain for several years; he also served on the Local School Council and as president of the Scott Joplin Elementary School for ten years; he joined the Morning Star Baptist Church of Chicago in 1980; in 1990, he was ordained as a deacon and shortly thereafter became the chairman of the Deacon Board; and

WHEREAS, Lesley White was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Lorraine White; and

WHEREAS, Lesley White is survived by his wife of 63 years, Aretha; his grandchildren, Bertina, Anita, and Rev. Christopher (C.C.); his great-grandchildren, Akeyra, Artese, and Caleb; his special grandchildren, Marvin Stinson, Tichina Garner, Dylan Hammond, and Jayla Rounds; his special children, Rev. Keith B. (Felicia) Hayes and the Hayes family; his sister and cousin, Dorthy (Mitchell) McBride and Barbara Patsy White; his sisters-in-law, Harriett Turner, Ruth (Marvell) Hudson, Dorothy Knox, May White, and Choon Ja "Peggy" White; his special cousins, Inell King and Tommy (Blanch) Maxwell; his many godchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends of the family; and his Morning Star, Starlight St. James, and True Light Church families; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lesley White and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lesley White as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
