| 2 | | WHEREAS, Tinley Park Mental Health Center was constructed |
| 3 | | in 1958; it occupies 213 acres and is adjacent to the 62 acres |
| 4 | | of property vacated by the Howe Development Center; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, The facility was decertified by the federal |
| 6 | | government in 2009; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The 61-year-old facility stopped admission on |
| 8 | | June 16, 2012, and patients were discharged into local |
| 9 | | hospitals and treatment providers; to this day, the south |
| 10 | | suburbs suffer from an emergency mental health epidemic; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, The Tinley Park Mental Health Center property has |
| 12 | | remained unoccupied for the past seven years and poses safety |
| 13 | | and environmental risks to local residents of Tinley Park; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, The Village of Tinley Park has conducted their own |
| 15 | | private studies, at the expense of taxpayers, to investigate |
| 16 | | environmental risks associated with the Tinley Park Mental |
| 17 | | Health Center; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, The Village of Tinley Park has taken requested |
| 19 | | proposals from qualified developers across the nation in order |
| 20 | | to properly develop the Tinley Park Mental Health Center, and |
