SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Bette K. Jordan on December 2, 2018 at the age of 98; and

WHEREAS, Bette Jordan, the daughter of Oscar C. and Eva Conway Kleinow, grew up in Oak Park and later moved to River Forest; and

WHEREAS, Bette Jordan had a long career in public relations, learning the trade while working at the Patricia Stevens Modeling and Talent Agency in Chicago during the 1950s; she handled press relations and publicity for the Miss Chicago contest, which was part of the Miss America organization; and

WHEREAS, Bette Jordan eventually became the head of public relations for the Oak Park Public Schools, a position she held for 17 years; she later had a second career as a real estate broker for F.C. Pilgrim Co. in Oak Park, where she was a member of the Million Dollar Club; and

WHEREAS, Bette Jordan was an accomplished writer, publishing articles in the Chicago Tribune and, as a working mother, was seen to be ahead of her time; and

WHEREAS, Bette Jordan was a longtime member of River Forest Presbyterian Church and was active in several charities, including the Animal Care League and the Anti-Cruelty Society; and

WHEREAS, Bette Jordan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Forbes E. Jordan; her sister, Violet Rottschafer; and her brother, Jack P. Kleinow; and

WHEREAS, Bette Jordan was the mother of Susan Jordan, Sally Jordan, and Nancy Jordan; the grandmother of Sarah Rose Jordan and Nicholas Jordan Diefenbach; and the aunt of many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Bette K. Jordan and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bette Jordan as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
