2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Edith "Edie" D'Atri of Joliet, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on January 10, 2019; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Edie D'Atri was born in Joliet to Angelo and | ||||||
6 | Amelia (Mitri) Paluzzi on February 24, 1947; In 1944, she | ||||||
7 | graduated from Joliet Township High School, where she was the | ||||||
8 | first member of her family to be inducted into the National | ||||||
9 | Honor Society; she started a tradition that has been carried on | ||||||
10 | by her children and grandchildren; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Edie D'Atri worked at Al's Steakhouse, D'Amico's, | ||||||
12 | and Syl's restaurants, where she was known as a friendly and | ||||||
13 | capable waitress; she credited her years working as a waitress | ||||||
14 | for her good health; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Edie D'Atri was a devoted member of St. Jude | ||||||
16 | Parish; she was also a member of the Catholic Women's League, | ||||||
17 | the Ladies of the Elks, and the Cantigny Post Auxiliary; she | ||||||
18 | and her husband, Chester, volunteered at the Elks and at | ||||||
19 | Bicentennial Park; she loved a good joke and playing games, | ||||||
20 | including Euchre and Canasta; she was an avid knitter and | ||||||
21 | seamstress and made hundreds of baby hats for Birthright; her | ||||||
22 | sewing skills were used to help many family members and friends |

1 | with alterations and projects; she and Chester enjoyed | ||||||
2 | traveling, especially visiting relatives in California, | ||||||
3 | Alaska, Canada, Boston, Cleveland, and Italy; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Edie D'Atri was preceded in death by her parents; | ||||||
5 | her eldest sister, Violet (Steven) Biro; her husband of 56 | ||||||
6 | years, Chester; and her cousin, Phyllis Paluzzi; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Edie D'Atri is survived by her daughters, Denise | ||||||
8 | (James) Maffeo and Ramona (Paul) Delrose; her grandchildren, | ||||||
9 | Tony (Angela) and Lisa Maffeo and Marissa and Michael Delrose; | ||||||
10 | her great-grandchildren, Joseph, Matthew, and Mia Maffeo; her | ||||||
11 | sisters, Lillian (the late Joseph) Bonczek and Angela (the late | ||||||
12 | Henry) Giermala; her cousin, Geno (Margaret) Paluzzi; and her | ||||||
13 | many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
16 | Edith "Edie" D'Atri and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
17 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
18 | further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the family of Edie D'Atri as an expression of our | ||||||
21 | deepest sympathy.
