|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Dr. Robert F. "Bob" Kennett OD of |
4 | | Bloomington, who passed away on February 3, 2019; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Bob Kennett was born in Carroll, Iowa to Emery and |
6 | | Eva Brafford Kennett on September 18, 1938; he was raised on a |
7 | | farm near Lidderdale, Iowa; he graduated from Carroll High |
8 | | School, where he participated in many sports; he attended |
9 | | Simpson College and earned a degree in elementary education; at |
10 | | Simpson, he participated in the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity; he |
11 | | married Dorothy Hodges on July 19, 1959; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Bob Kennett was a fourth grade teacher in Des |
13 | | Moines, Iowa for many years before earning an advanced degree |
14 | | and becoming an optometrist; he moved to Chicago and attended |
15 | | optometry school at the Illinois Institute of Technology; along |
16 | | with going to school, he drove a bus on State Street and worked |
17 | | in the men's department at Marshall Fields during Christmas |
18 | | break; after graduation, he purchased an optometry practice in |
19 | | Bloomington and began his lifelong journey of building a |
20 | | practice, taking care of his patients, raising his family, |
21 | | making friends, and staying involved in the community; and
|
22 | | WHEREAS, Bob Kennett was involved in the Kiwanis Club of |
|

1 | | Bloomington, and he served as president, in a district |
2 | | leadership role, and also enjoyed participating in Camp |
3 | | Limberlost, the annual pancake breakfasts, and Peanut Days; he |
4 | | was a member of the Young Men's Club, the McLean County |
5 | | Optometric Society, where he served as president, the Masonic |
6 | | Lodge, and the Shrine Club; he was a member of the Second |
7 | | Presbyterian Church; he was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and |
8 | | the Illinois State University Redbirds; he provided optometric |
9 | | services to many of the ISU sports teams; he looked forward to |
10 | | attending as many football and basketball games as possible; |
11 | | and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Bob Kennett was preceded in death by his parents; |
13 | | and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Bob Kennett is survived by his wife of 60 years, |
15 | | Dorothy; his sons, Steve (Kendra), Jon (Anne), and Greg; his |
16 | | grandchildren, Emery, Andrew, Matt, Megan, Freddy, Audrey, |
17 | | Alex, and Casey; his sister, Marlene (Bud) Baumhover; his |
18 | | nieces and nephews; his many loving friends; therefore, be it

19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
20 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
21 | | Dr. Robert F. "Bob" Kennett OD and extend our sincere |
22 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
23 | | him; and be it further
