SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Edward Joseph "Ed" Klein of Peoria, who
4passed away on February 2, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ed Klein was born in Peoria to Erwin and Louise
6Klein on January 5, 1923; he graduated from the Spalding
7Institute in Peoria; he attended Bradley University, where he
8earned his bachelor's degree in English in 1948; he married
9Dolores Gibson on May 23, 1952; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ed Klein spent most of his career working as an
11advertising copywriter at the Hall, Haerr, Peterson & Harney
12Inc. Agency in Peoria; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Ed Klein was a tireless worker for the cause of
14civil rights and was instrumental in founding the Truth Corps,
15which later became the Peoria Chapter of the NAACP; he also
16proudly supported feminism and served as the interim president
17of Peoria's NOW Chapter; he wrote many letters to the editors
18of local newsletters and newspapers whenever he felt a voice
19needed to be heard; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Ed Klein enjoyed traveling the back roads of the
21Midwest with his wife and discovering out-of-the-way parks,

1waterways, and small town cafes; he made it a point to keep up
2with new products and emerging technology and was always eager
3to try new gadgets or products; he was a handyman who was not
4afraid to take on household projects, even if they were beyond
5his skill set; he was an avid reader with a sense of humor, a
6clever wit, and an insatiable desire to learn; he will be
7remembered as a gentleman with a sweet spirit; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Ed Klein was preceded in death by his parents; his
9wife, Dolores Klein; his son, Christopher Klein; his grandson,
10William Klein; and his brothers, Dick Klein and Jerry Klein;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Ed Klein is survived by his daughters, Christina
13(Pat) Puntoni and Paula Klein; his sons, Tim (Debbie) Klein,
14Evan Klein, and Marty (Barbara) Klein; his sister, Sue Klein;
15his ten grandchildren; and his ten great-grandchildren;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Edward Joseph "Ed" Klein and extend our sincere condolences to
20his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
21further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
