2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Henry J. "Hank" Paulus, who passed away |
4 | | on February 21, 2019; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Hank Paulus was born in Chicago to Henry and Mary |
6 | | (Slama) Paulus on December 29, 1929; he graduated from St. |
7 | | Teresa School in 1943 and Lane Tech High School in 1947; he |
8 | | served in the Illinois National Guard, Ambulance Company, 108 |
9 | | Medical Battalion, 33rd Division, from June 1948 to May 1959; |
10 | | he married Diane Stasko on October 3, 1953; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Hank Paulus was employed by Met Life for 14 years |
12 | | and Allstate Insurance Company for 24 years until his |
13 | | retirement in January 1993; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, Hank Paulus served the Village of Lake Zurich as |
15 | | clerk from 1961 to September 1968, as trustee until May 1969, |
16 | | as president from 1969 to 1989, and as a member of the Zoning |
17 | | Board of Appeals from 1993 to 2015, serving for a time as |
18 | | chairman and vice chairman; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Hank Paulus helped establish a solid commercial |
20 | | base for the residents of Lake Zurich and the first paramedic |
21 | | program in Lake County; he assisted in bringing Good Shepherd |

1 | | Hospital to the area; and |
2 | | WHEREAS, Hank Paulus served as chairman of the Council of |
3 | | Mayors for the Chicago Area Transportation Study, which brought |
4 | | millions of dollars to Lake County for many transportation |
5 | | projects; he worked with the mayors in the six-county area to |
6 | | revamp the RTA; in addition, during his tenure, he served as |
7 | | co-chairman of the Lake Zurich Centennial Celebration; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Hank Paulus coached Lake Zurich youth baseball for |
9 | | 14 years, serving as league president for two; he was a member |
10 | | of St. Francis de Sales Church in Lake Zurich, where he served |
11 | | as an usher for over 60 years and as an original eucharistic |
12 | | minister for over 40 years; he also served on the Finance |
13 | | Council, on the Building and Grounds Committee as chairman, as |
14 | | president of the Holy Name Society, as trustee of the Parish, |
15 | | and as trustee of the Joseph Firnbach Foundation; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Hank Paulus was preceded in death by his wife of |
17 | | 50 years, Diane; his parents; and his grandparents; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Hank Paulus is survived by his sons, David, Kurt |
19 | | (Debbie), and Steven (Janet); his grandchildren, Michael |
20 | | (Amy), Amy, Cassie (Andres) Ronancio, Matthew (Whitney), |
21 | | Jacob, and Hannah; his great-grandchildren, Michael Jr., |
22 | | Meredith, Morgan, Ava, Rylee, and Cruz; his sister-in-law, |

1 | | Charlene Stasko; his nieces, Michelle Cereghino and Nancy |
2 | | (John) Zumski; his nephew, Chris (Julie); and numerous other |

4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
5 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
6 | | Henry J. "Hank" Paulus and extend our sincere condolences to |
7 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
8 | | further

9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
10 | | presented to the family of Hank Paulus as an expression of our |
11 | | deepest sympathy.
