SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, With more than 85,000 direct jobs, Illinois is one of the top states for the life sciences industry; and

WHEREAS, The life sciences industry is a major contributor to the overall Illinois economy; and

WHEREAS, The life sciences industry is one of the highest paying industries in the State; and

WHEREAS, Illinois residents employed by life sciences companies earn 91% more than the average Illinois resident; and

WHEREAS, Illinois state and local taxes paid by the life sciences industry equal approximately 4.7% of all state and local taxes collected in Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Northwestern University is home to world-leading faculty and innovators dedicated to bringing breakthrough discoveries from laboratories to clinics; and

WHEREAS, The Chemistry of Life Processes Institute at Northwestern University is dedicated to advancing human health and offering new hope to millions of people around the world living with disease; and

WHEREAS, The Chemistry of Life Processes Institute hastens the development of new ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases like cancer, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, addiction, heart disease, and other disorders that transform science and life; and

WHEREAS, The Chemistry of Life Processes Institute has accelerated 75 new drug candidates, medical devices, and diagnostic technologies in the development pipeline resulting in 26 new companies that have received $1.5 billion in external investments; and

WHEREAS, The Chemistry of Life Processes Institute at Northwestern University is hosting a Biotech Summit by the Lake on March 27, 2019 to encourage investment in breakthrough science at Illinois-based and national biotech and pharmaceutical public companies led by Northwestern University graduates; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we support the critical research of the Chemistry of Life Processes Institute at Northwestern University and the important contributions to human health of leading biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies based in Illinois and across the nation; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Chemistry of Life Processes Institute at Northwestern University as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
