| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Charles Gene "Chuck" Thome of Mapleton, |
| 4 | | who passed away on March 16, 2019; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Chuck Thome was born in Peoria to Charles Arthur |
| 6 | | and Lois (Mason) Thome on June 4, 1935; he was a veteran of the |
| 7 | | United States Army; he married Joyce Joanne Gilmore in Peoria |
| 8 | | on February 5, 1955; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Chuck Thome retired from Caterpillar, Inc., in |
| 10 | | 1995 after 40 years of service; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Chuck Thome was a charter member of the baseball |
| 12 | | and softball juggernaut known as the "Family of Hitters"; he |
| 13 | | was the batting champion in the Sunday Morning League in 1964 |
| 14 | | and was voted League MVP the following year; he was proud to |
| 15 | | have been a member of the Metro League in Rock Island and to |
| 16 | | have played in seven International Softball Congress World |
| 17 | | Tournaments; he was recognized as a tough clutch hitter against |
| 18 | | the top pitcher in the world and was inducted into the Peoria |
| 19 | | Area Sports Hall of Fame; he was an avid fisherman and hunter; |
| 20 | | he enjoyed following sports, being the #1 Jack Thome fan, and |
| 21 | | spending time with his family and friends; and
