| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Archie Melvin Strandlund of Moline, who |
| 4 | | passed away on March 16, 2019; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Archie Strandlund was born in Mora, Minnesota to |
| 6 | | Leo and Ethel Billstrom Strandlund on January 16, 1921; he |
| 7 | | served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and became a "plank |
| 8 | | owner" when he was assigned to the commissioning crew of the |
| 9 | | USS New Jersey, which became the Navy's most decorated |
| 10 | | battleship; he was a Gunner's Mate Second Class and manned a |
| 11 | | 40-millimeter anti-aircraft gun during combat operations in |
| 12 | | the Pacific; he married Lavina Dillman on June 6, 1945; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Archie Strandlund was a tool and die maker with |
| 14 | | John Deere Farm Implement Manufacturers and John Deere Plow and |
| 15 | | Planter for 37 years, retiring in 1983; he continued to take |
| 16 | | classes and teach for 20 years in the Davenport Community |
| 17 | | School District and community college machine technology |
| 18 | | programs; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Archie Strandlund enjoyed reading books written |
| 20 | | in Swedish in his spare time; his home workshop was open to |
| 21 | | all, and if he could not make a repair, the project could be |
| 22 | | deemed "unfixable"; and
|
