SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mildred J. Wiley, who passed away on March 26, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Mildred Wiley was born in Chicago to George Jordan and Faytonia Rhodes on December 17, 1955; she graduated from Providence St. Mel High School in Chicago and from Lewis University; she married Houston Wiley Jr. in 1978; and

WHEREAS, Mildred Wiley worked at Bethel New Life for 25 years and then the Institute for Nonviolence Chicago as a community organizer; she was committed to improving the Chicago School system and served on numerous boards throughout Chicago; she was well respected in the Austin and Garfield communities; and

WHEREAS, Mildred Wiley was a member of Claire Christian United Methodist Church in Chicago, and later, Resurrection United Methodist Church; she was a personable, considerate, and giving person who believed in being positive, hopeful and persistent; and

WHEREAS, Mildred Wiley was preceded in death by her father, George Jordan, and her sister, Janet; and

WHEREAS, Mildred Wiley is survived by her husband, Houston; her son, Corey Wiley; her daughter, Colby Wiley; her grandson, Joseph Robinson; her mother, Faytonia Fair; her sisters, Laverne Emir and Carlella Rogers; her brother, Peter (Shaun); her sisters-in-law, Geneva Ormond and Annie Whitmore (Roy); her brother-in-law, Herman Wiley; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Mildred J. Wiley and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mildred Wiley as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
