SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Steve Stroud of Elgin, who passed away on April 5, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Steve Stroud was born in Aurora to James and Eunice (Rudolf) Stroud on November 23, 1942; he served in the United States Army from 1960 until 1963; he married Laura in 1992; and

WHEREAS, Steve Stroud worked as a foreign language teacher and retired in 1993; and

WHEREAS, Steve Stroud was a noted historical researcher and preservationist; well known for his passion for research into old local homes and cemeteries, his interest in local history was sparked by a book about the old, lost homes of Chicago; he was the author of There Used to Be, a three-volume series about the history and architecture of old homes in Elgin, and Silent City: A History of Elgin's City Cemeteries; he created a website that highlighted many of the city's historic bungalows and was working on a second website to chronicle the lost homes of the city; and

WHEREAS, Steve Stroud served on the board of the Elgin History Museum, where he volunteered three times a week and, along with his wife, co-chaired the annual Bluff City Cemetery walk; he also served on the design review subcommittee for the city's heritage commission; he paid regular visits to the Elgin Township Assessor's office, whose basement was his treasure trove; he will be remembered as a tenacious and caring member of the city who did a lot to advance Elgin's reputation; and

WHEREAS, Steve Stroud was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Michael Stroud and Patricia Stroud; and his stepdaughter, Anne Beauregard; and

WHEREAS, Steve Stroud is survived by his wife, Laura; his stepson, Scott Beauregard; his brother, Tom (Francine) Stroud; his sister-in-law, Georgette Neumann; his grandchildren, Gabriel and Rowan Beauregard and Jacqueline and Kaitlin Graziano; his nieces and nephews; and his many friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Steve Stroud and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Steve Stroud as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
