2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of James W. "Jim" Gardner of Rantoul, who |
4 | | passed away on April 18, 2019; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Jim Gardner was born in Urbana to Willard and |
6 | | Olive (Kyler) Gardner on November 6, 1949; he graduated from |
7 | | Rantoul Township High School in 1949 and served in the U.S. |
8 | | National Guard; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Jim Gardner worked at the Clinton Power Station |
10 | | for several years; he was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters |
11 | | Local 149 since 1970; he started as a project manager for A&R |
12 | | Mechanical in 1980, serving as the company's senior project |
13 | | manager for 25 years; his signature projects included some of |
14 | | the most difficult and complicated mechanical systems built in |
15 | | central Illinois, including the U of I Abbott Power Plant |
16 | | renovations, the U of I Petascale Supercomputer, the U of I |
17 | | Chemical and Life Sciences Building, the U of I Memorial |
18 | | Stadium renovations, the U of I State Farm Center renovations, |
19 | | and the Carle Heart and Vascular Institute; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Jim Gardner was known as "Snake" to his friends; |
21 | | he enjoyed golf and played in multiple golf leagues; he loved |
22 | | to travel and spend time in Florida on the beach; he also |
