SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of William R. Powell of Colona, who passed away on April 7, 2019; and

WHEREAS, William Powell was born in Wayne, Indiana to Roy and Carolyn Fegley Powell on March 17, 1932; he served in the United States Army during the Korean War and married Nora Myers in Colona on December 26, 1954; he later married Mary Jane Fleming Kent in Colona on September 10, 2010; and

WHEREAS, William Powell worked as an inspector for John Deere Harvester, retiring in 1982 after 37 years of service; he was a volunteer ambulance driver for the Cambridge Fire Department and a courier for Blackhawk Bank and Trust; and

WHEREAS, William Powell was a member of the United Auto Workers in East Moline and the First Baptist Church of Colona; he was a former Master Mason at Clement Lodge 680 A.F.& A.M. and a board member for the Henry County Crime Stoppers, where he was involved with the Fingerprinting Children Program; he was also a ham radio operator; and

WHEREAS, William Powell was preceded in death by his first wife, Nora; his parents; his infant son, Robert F. Powell; and his son, Carroll Eugene Powell; and

WHEREAS, William Powell is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; his daughter, Sharon (Laurie) Young; his son, William F. (Marlah) Powell; his stepson, David (Sharon) Clementz; his foster children, Donald, Terry, and Michael (Wendy) Powell; his grandchildren, William (Nikki) Powell, Erin Elizabeth (Patrick) Woods, and Anastasia (Joe) Billet; and 10 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of William R. Powell and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of William Powell as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
