| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Jack A. Henderson of Gurnee, who passed |
| 4 | | away on April 11, 2019; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jack Henderson was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin on |
| 6 | | March 28, 1930; he attended high school in Kenosha and |
| 7 | | graduated from Waukegan Township High School; in 1950, he |
| 8 | | enlisted in the United States Navy and served loyally in combat |
| 9 | | operations for four years while aboard the USS Blue and the USS |
| 10 | | Juneau; in 1953, while serving in the Korean War, he was |
| 11 | | baptized into the Roman Catholic faith; he married Marion |
| 12 | | Deinlein at St. Mary in Fremont Center on November 20, 1954; |
| 13 | | and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, After returning from the war, Jack Henderson began |
| 15 | | his career as a firefighter in Highland Park; he rose to the |
| 16 | | rank of lieutenant at the North Chicago Fire Department; he |
| 17 | | served as fire chief at Abbott Lab; inspired by his father, who |
| 18 | | was also a firefighter, he inspired his two sons and a grandson |
| 19 | | to become firefighters and paramedics; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Jack Henderson enjoyed traveling and visited the |
| 21 | | Far East, the Middle East, and various places in Europe; he |
| 22 | | traveled to the Lakewoods Resort in Cable, Wisconsin every |
|

| 1 | | summer to vacation with his family; he would tell stories |
| 2 | | around the campfire, teach his grandchildren how to drive on |
| 3 | | the backroads around the resort, and take his grandchildren on |
| 4 | | "bear excursions"; he loved his grandchildren, and they called |
| 5 | | him "Grampa Apple"; he began playing golf at age 52 and |
| 6 | | routinely played five days a week; he remained close with his |
| 7 | | military comrades and enjoyed the annual USS Juneau reunions |
| 8 | | with his shipmates; in 2018, he participated in a Honor Flight |
| 9 | | trip to Washington, D.C. and was accompanied by his grandson, |
| 10 | | Ryan; they had the privilege and honor of visiting the Korean |
| 11 | | War Memorial; affectionately known as "Apple Jack", he will be |
| 12 | | remembered for his sense of humor, compassion, and smile; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Jack Henderson is survived by his wife, Marion; |
| 14 | | his children, Doug (Jill) Henderson, Greg (Jane) Henderson, |
| 15 | | Jeff (Beth) Henderson, and Tina (Mike) Burke; his |
| 16 | | grandchildren, Sarah and Brian Henderson, Paul (Danielle) and |
| 17 | | Jeff Henderson, Chris, Michael, and Liza Henderson, and Ryan, |
| 18 | | Katie, and Jack Burke; and his great-grandchildren, Charlotte |
| 19 | | and Vivian Henderson; therefore, be it

| 20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
| 21 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 22 | | Jack A. Henderson and extend our sincere condolences to his |
| 23 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
