| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Betsy G. Berry of Michigan City, Indiana, |
| 4 | | who passed away on April 26, 2019; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Betsy Berry was born in Chicago; she served in the |
| 6 | | U.S. Navy in the 1940s and graduated from Roosevelt University; |
| 7 | | she married Edwin C. "Bill" Berry in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in |
| 8 | | September 1956; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Betsy Berry had a successful career as a real |
| 10 | | estate agent in the Hyde Park area; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Betsy Berry moved to Michigan City, Indiana in the |
| 12 | | late 1980s; she worked with the Three Oaks Food Pantry and |
| 13 | | volunteered at the homeless shelter; she was on the Literacy |
| 14 | | Advisory Board of the Michigan City Public Library, where she |
| 15 | | tutored English as a second language; she was a mentor at the |
| 16 | | Hours For Ours program at Michigan City schools and served as a |
| 17 | | board member of the North Central Community Action Agency; she |
| 18 | | was dedicated to promoting civil rights throughout her |
| 19 | | lifetime; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Betsy Berry was preceded in death by her husband, |
| 21 | | Bill; her adopted son, Myron H. Wahls; and her brother, Robert |
