| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Bettye J. Zoumah, who passed away on May |
| 4 | | 19, 2019; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Bettye Zoumah was born to Cozen Kelly and Sarah |
| 6 | | Brown on May 7, 1932; she lived in Shreveport, Louisiana and |
| 7 | | attended Brookfield School; she moved to Los Angeles and lived |
| 8 | | there until the death of her mother; she then moved to Chicago |
| 9 | | to live with her great-aunt, Josephine Bell; she attended |
| 10 | | Raymond Elementary School and Wendell Phillips High School; she |
| 11 | | committed to her faith at Progressive Baptist Church on |
| 12 | | December 25, 1942; she married Bert Zoumah Sr.; they raised six |
| 13 | | children; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Bettye Zoumah attended Rite of Christian |
| 15 | | Initiation of Adults (RCIA) in the 1950s and volunteered at |
| 16 | | Holy Angels Catholic Church until she moved to the Roseland |
| 17 | | community; she then attended St. John DeLaSalle Church before |
| 18 | | returning to Holy Angels Catholic Church in 2001; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Betty Zoumah was preceded in death by her mother, |
| 20 | | her great-aunt, and five of her children; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Bettye Zoumah is survived by her daughter, |
