SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bettye J. Zoumah, who passed away on May
419, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bettye Zoumah was born to Cozen Kelly and Sarah
6Brown on May 7, 1932; she lived in Shreveport, Louisiana and
7attended Brookfield School; she moved to Los Angeles and lived
8there until the death of her mother; she then moved to Chicago
9to live with her great-aunt, Josephine Bell; she attended
10Raymond Elementary School and Wendell Phillips High School; she
11committed to her faith at Progressive Baptist Church on
12December 25, 1942; she married Bert Zoumah Sr.; they raised six
13children; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Bettye Zoumah attended Rite of Christian
15Initiation of Adults (RCIA) in the 1950s and volunteered at
16Holy Angels Catholic Church until she moved to the Roseland
17community; she then attended St. John DeLaSalle Church before
18returning to Holy Angels Catholic Church in 2001; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Betty Zoumah was preceded in death by her mother,
20her great-aunt, and five of her children; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Bettye Zoumah is survived by her daughter,

1Pnretious (Tommy) Harris; her grandchildren; her
2great-grandchildren; her great-great-grandchildren; her
3nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her closest friend of 75
4years, Hazel; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Bettye J. Zoumah and extend our sincere condolences to her
8family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Bettye Zoumah as an expression of
12our deepest sympathy.
