2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Eddie L. Jones II, who passed away on May |
4 | | 27, 2019; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Eddie Jones was born in Cotton Plant, Arkansas to |
6 | | Rosie Lee and Eddie Lee Jones Sr. on March 27, 1952; he |
7 | | attended elementary school in Cotton Plant for two years before |
8 | | he migrated to Chicago with his family in 1959, where they |
9 | | joined Roberts Temple C.O.G.I.C.; he attended Mayo Elementary |
10 | | School and graduated from Wendell Phillips High School in 1970; |
11 | | he graduated from Western Illinois University in 1974; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Eddie Jones had a successful career at IBM; he |
13 | | then began a second career at All Points Security, Inc. and had |
14 | | a client list that included planning for President Bill |
15 | | Clinton's motorcades and crowd control; his work afforded him |
16 | | the opportunity to travel internationally as part of the U.S. |
17 | | Presidential Delegation with the Clinton Administration; he |
18 | | was part of the John Kerry For President National Advance |
19 | | Staff, the State Senator Barack Obama Chicago Advance Staff, |
20 | | and the Senator H.R. Clinton National Advance Staff; in 1990, |
21 | | he joined the Alpha Phi Alpha Security Team, where he provided |
22 | | security services for the fraternity's leadership and mentored |
23 | | others on security practices, protocals, and awareness; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Eddie Jones was dedicated to making the world a |
2 | | better place in whatever way he could; he was involved with the |
3 | | Global Alliance Preparatory Charter School, the Chicago Area |
4 | | Project, Chicago Cares, the IBM E-Mentor Program, the Genesis |
5 | | Foundation, the Tavis Smiley Local Advisory Council, the Fannie |
6 | | Mae Corp Advisory Council, the Chicago Black Network Group of |
7 | | IBM, the Coach Biddy Basketball South Central Community Center, |
8 | | the IBM Oak Brook Community Action Council, the IBM Corporate |
9 | | Contribution Committee, Lawrence Hall Youth Services, the |
10 | | Chicago Urban League, the Boy Scouts of America Speaker |
11 | | Program, the Elliott Donnelley Youth Center, and Junior |
12 | | Achievement; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, Eddie Jones was a Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha |
14 | | Fraternity Inc.; he was an Olympic Torch Bearer in 1996; he was |
15 | | a YMCA Black & Hispanic Corporate Achiever Honoree in 1998
and |
16 | | a Elliott Donnelley - Diamond of Donnelley Honoree in 1999;
he |
17 | | was Principal For A Day at Mayo Elementary School in 2001, |
18 | | 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008; he was a Wendell |
19 | | Phillips Hall of Fame Inductee in 2000
and received the Chicago |
20 | | Youth Center's Yes I Can Award in 2005; he received the IBM |
21 | | President's Volunteer Service Award in 2005, 2006, 2007, and |
22 | | 2008; and

23 | | WHEREAS, Eddie Jones was preceded in death by his mother, |

|
2 | | WHEREAS, Eddie Jones is survived by his high school |
3 | | sweetheart and the mother of his children, Dorothy A. Smith; |
4 | | his children, Iesha (Jones) James, Matthew Jones, and Meghan |
5 | | Jones; his grandchildren, Vess, Kalei, Kaitlyn, and Kaylin; his |
6 | | siblings, Catherine Shipp (Dan Shipp), Katie M. Thomas (Arthur |
7 | | Thomas), John H. Jones, Richard Jones (Pamela Jones), Paul |
8 | | Jones, Sylvia A. Jones, and Rochelle Jones; his father, Eddie |
9 | | Lee Jones Sr.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and |
10 | | great-nephews; therefore, be it

11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
13 | | Eddie L. Jones II and extend our sincere condolences to his |
14 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
15 | | further

16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
17 | | presented to the family of Eddie Jones as an expression of our |
18 | | deepest sympathy.
