| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Sherwood Beldam "Chub" Howald of Bunker |
| 4 | | Hill, who passed away on May 27, 2019; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Sherwood Howald was born in Bunker Hill to Charles |
| 6 | | and Helen Howald (Whitfield) on May 27, 1929; he graduated from |
| 7 | | Bunker Hill High School in 1947 and served in the U.S. Army in |
| 8 | | Europe; he married Gertraud "Traudl" "Judy" in Vienna, Austria |
| 9 | | on May 9, 1951, and they settled in Bunker Hill, moving to the |
| 10 | | Woodburn farmhouse on Huette Road in 1957; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Sherwood Howald worked as a farmer and pipefitter |
| 12 | | for Local 553; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, A resident for 62 years, Sherwood Howald jokingly |
| 14 | | called himself "The Mayor of Woodburn"; he was a member of the |
| 15 | | American Legion, the First Congregational Church in Bunker |
| 16 | | Hill, and the Macoupin County and Bunker Hill Historical |
| 17 | | Societies; he was known for his generosity, humor, and interest |
| 18 | | in others; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Sherwood Howald was preceded in death by his |
| 20 | | parents; his brother, Robert Howald; and his sister, Bertha Mae |
| 21 | | Benham; and
