SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Sherwood Beldam "Chub" Howald of Bunker Hill, who passed away on May 27, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Sherwood Howald was born in Bunker Hill to Charles and Helen Howald (Whitfield) on May 27, 1929; he graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1947 and served in the U.S. Army in Europe; he married Gertraud "Traudl" "Judy" in Vienna, Austria on May 9, 1951, and they settled in Bunker Hill, moving to the Woodburn farmhouse on Huette Road in 1957; and

WHEREAS, Sherwood Howald worked as a farmer and pipefitter for Local 553; and

WHEREAS, A resident for 62 years, Sherwood Howald jokingly called himself "The Mayor of Woodburn"; he was a member of the American Legion, the First Congregational Church in Bunker Hill, and the Macoupin County and Bunker Hill Historical Societies; he was known for his generosity, humor, and interest in others; and

WHEREAS, Sherwood Howald was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Howald; and his sister, Bertha Mae Benham; and

WHEREAS, Sherwood Howald is survived by his wife of 68 years, Gertraud; his sons, Michael and Mark Howald; his daughter-in-law, Roxanne Howald; his granddaughters Amanda Bull, Lindsey Patton, and Whitney Vieths; his grandsons-in-law, Jon Bull, Andy Patton, and Brady Vieths; his great-grandchildren, Asher Bull, Simon Bull, Eliot Patton, and Rylee Vieths; his sister, Betty Zarges; and his sister-in-law, Carol Howald; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Sherwood Beldam "Chub" Howald and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sherwood Howald as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
