| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Jesse Willard Parker of Normal, who |
| 4 | | passed away on July 14, 2019; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jesse Parker was born in Baldwin County, Alabama |
| 6 | | to Coey E. and Cornelia Thomley Parker on July 2, 1927; during |
| 7 | | World War II, he joined the Merchant Marines at the age of 17 |
| 8 | | and served on a ship off the coast of France during the |
| 9 | | invasion; he served in the United States Army during the Korean |
| 10 | | War; he married Dorothy Eswine in Evansville, Indiana on April |
| 11 | | 25, 1953; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Jesse Parker sold fertilizer for VEE CEE after his |
| 13 | | army service; he was then hired as a letter carrier for the |
| 14 | | United States Postal Service; he delivered mail for most of his |
| 15 | | working life and also served as the Vehicle Operations |
| 16 | | Maintenance Assistant (VOMA); he retired as the postmaster of |
| 17 | | the Lexington Post Office; he continued to serve in the |
| 18 | | National Guard, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Jesse Parker was a member of the American Legion |
| 20 | | and Calvary Baptist Church in Normal; he was a 33rd Degree |
| 21 | | Mason and a member of the Mohammed Shrine and the Eastern Star; |
| 22 | | he was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, and hunter; he was a |
