2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Lisa Iskalis McCarthy of Northfield, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on July 21, 2019; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lisa McCarthy was born in Waukegan to Thomas and | ||||||
6 | Doris Iskalis; she graduated at the top of her class in both | ||||||
7 | middle school and high school and participated in high school | ||||||
8 | basketball, tennis, volleyball, and cheerleading; always one | ||||||
9 | to hold herself to high standards, she graduated magna cum | ||||||
10 | laude from the University of Illinois in 1988, where she | ||||||
11 | majored in political science and French, a language in which | ||||||
12 | she was fluent, and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor | ||||||
13 | society and the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority; she earned a Juris | ||||||
14 | Doctor from New York University School of Law in 1992; after | ||||||
15 | her second year of law school, she worked as a clerk at Jenner & | ||||||
16 | Block in Chicago, where she met Kevin McCarthy; she changed | ||||||
17 | her plans to practice law in France and married Kevin, and they | ||||||
18 | built a life in Chicago; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Lisa McCarthy worked at Sonnenschein, Nath & | ||||||
20 | Rosenthal, the American Dental Association, and McCabe & Hogan; | ||||||
21 | she retired from her legal career to devote time to her family | ||||||
22 | and community; and

1 | WHEREAS, Lisa McCarthy volunteered at Sts. Peter and Paul | ||||||
2 | Greek Orthodox Church and Lurie Children's Hospital; generous | ||||||
3 | and kindhearted, she prepared homemade dinners for other | ||||||
4 | families and ministered to those in need; she was confident and | ||||||
5 | assertive and never backed down from standing up for what was | ||||||
6 | right; she was an avid tennis and paddle player and enjoyed the | ||||||
7 | camaraderie of that community; her family was at the center of | ||||||
8 | her life, and she encouraged her children to set and achieve | ||||||
9 | high academic goals; she was loving daughter, wife, mother, | ||||||
10 | sister, and aunt who made her home a warm and welcoming center | ||||||
11 | of family activity; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Lisa McCarthy was preceded in death by her | ||||||
13 | brother, Thomas Iskalis; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Lisa McCarthy is survived by her husband, Kevin; | ||||||
15 | her children, Madison, Caroline, Quinn, and Michael McCarthy; | ||||||
16 | her parents; her brother, John (Dana) Iskalis; her sister, | ||||||
17 | Jennifer (Keith) Marhefka; her sister-in-law, Annalisa; her | ||||||
18 | mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jerry and Joyce McCarthy; and | ||||||
19 | many nieces and nephews whom she treated as her own children; | ||||||
20 | therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
23 | Lisa Iskalis McCarthy and extend our sincere condolences to her |

1 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
2 | further

3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
