SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lisa Iskalis McCarthy of Northfield, who passed away on July 21, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Lisa McCarthy was born in Waukegan to Thomas and Doris Iskalis; she graduated at the top of her class in both middle school and high school and participated in high school basketball, tennis, volleyball, and cheerleading; always one to hold herself to high standards, she graduated magna cum laude from the University of Illinois in 1988, where she majored in political science and French, a language in which she was fluent, and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority; she earned a Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law in 1992; after her second year of law school, she worked as a clerk at Jenner & Block in Chicago, where she met Kevin McCarthy; she changed her plans to practice law in France and married Kevin, and they built a life in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Lisa McCarthy worked at Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal, the American Dental Association, and McCabe & Hogan; she retired from her legal career to devote time to her family and community; and

WHEREAS, Lisa McCarthy volunteered at Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church and Lurie Children's Hospital; generous and kindhearted, she prepared homemade dinners for other families and ministered to those in need; she was confident and assertive and never backed down from standing up for what was right; she was an avid tennis and paddle player and enjoyed the camaraderie of that community; her family was at the center of her life, and she encouraged her children to set and achieve high academic goals; she was loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, and aunt who made her home a warm and welcoming center of family activity; and

WHEREAS, Lisa McCarthy was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Iskalis; and

WHEREAS, Lisa McCarthy is survived by her husband, Kevin; her children, Madison, Caroline, Quinn, and Michael McCarthy; her parents; her brother, John (Dana) Iskalis; her sister, Jennifer (Keith) Marhefka; her sister-in-law, Annalisa; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jerry and Joyce McCarthy; and many nieces and nephews whom she treated as her own children; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lisa Iskalis McCarthy and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lisa McCarthy as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
