SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of William J. "Bill" Travers of Washington,
4D.C., who passed away on August 4, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bill Travers was born in Philadelphia to Thomas
6and Margaret Griffin Travers in 1928; he married Geraldine T.
7"Gerrie" Lis in 1951; he served in United States Air Force in
8Korea and Vietnam and achieved the rank of Senior Master
9Sergeant; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Bill Travers retired from the Air Force in 1968
11and spent much of his career in the construction industry,
12where he played crucial roles in the completion of many large
13government projects; and
 
14    WHEREAS, During his retirement, Bill Travers was known for
15his service to his fellow senior citizens, both as a driver and
16as a source of vital information; he married Elaine L. Burnham
17in 2009, and they enjoyed many happy years together; and
 
18    WHEREAS, In his years at the Armed Forces Retirement Home,
19Bill Travers formed strong friendships and was a beloved
20presence during mealtimes with his buddies at Table One; and

1    WHEREAS, Bill Travers was preceded in death by his first
2wife, Gerrie; his second wife, Elaine; and his brothers, James
3and Thomas; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Bill Travers is survived by his children, Rev.
5Patrick J. Travers, William J. (Cherry) Travers Jr., John T.
6(Carrie) Travers, Thomas J. (Allison) Travers, Lisa M. (John)
7Heinz, and Lynn T. (Ian) Pritchard; his grandchildren, Tatum
8and Woody Travers and Micki (Xavier) Stacey; his
9great-grandchildren, Jack and CJ; and numerous nephews and
10nieces; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13William J. "Bill" Travers and extend our sincere condolences to
14his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Bill Travers as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
