2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of George Delhaye of Westville, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on August 27, 2019; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, George Delhaye was born in Westville to Louis and | ||||||
6 | Helen Ames Delhaye on October 3, 1936; he attended Westville | ||||||
7 | schools and graduated in 1955; he joined the United States Navy | ||||||
8 | Reserve; he married Sonna Shaw on September 9, 1957; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, George Delhaye entered the workforce at an early | ||||||
10 | age and began his career at Davies Packing Company; he then | ||||||
11 | worked in building maintenance for Tee Pak and retired in 1999 | ||||||
12 | after 35 years of service; he was a member of the United Food | ||||||
13 | and Commercial Workers Union Local 686; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, George Delhaye was dedicated to the Village of | ||||||
15 | Westville; he was Chairman of the Westville Historical Depot | ||||||
16 | and Museum; he was instrumental in linking the past to the | ||||||
17 | present, most recently with "Our Town Westville," a featured | ||||||
18 | segment on WCIA Channel 3; he helped coordinate the Lithuanian | ||||||
19 | Day in Westville, the new heritage flag, and the new historical | ||||||
20 | mural and coal cars at the depot grounds; as a local historian, | ||||||
21 | he spent many hours collecting and displaying memorabilia, | ||||||
22 | gathering donations, guiding tours, teaching students, and |

1 | making sure the depot was maintained; he was honored alongside | ||||||
2 | all committee members of the Westville Depot as Honorary | ||||||
3 | Marshals of the Annual Westville Labor Day Parade and | ||||||
4 | Celebration in 2013; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, George Delhaye was an avid sportsman; early in | ||||||
6 | life, he enjoyed hunting ducks, geese, rabbits, squirrels, and | ||||||
7 | doves; his passion was deer hunting; he was also an experienced | ||||||
8 | angler with a wealth of knowledge; he was a master craftsman | ||||||
9 | and built his own fishing rods and tackle; he owned Rod | ||||||
10 | Crafters and was proud of the custom lures he created; he | ||||||
11 | fished many lake and river systems with his son, Gary; he | ||||||
12 | enjoyed looking for morel and fall mushrooms; he was a | ||||||
13 | dedicated gardener, and his yard was featured on the Vermilion | ||||||
14 | County Garden Walk sponsored by the Master Gardeners; he | ||||||
15 | enjoyed visiting antique shops, flea markets, and garage sales; | ||||||
16 | he had a true humanitarian spirit and was the epitome of | ||||||
17 | volunteerism; he loved his family, friends, and community; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, George Delhaye was preceded in death by his | ||||||
19 | parents; his wife of 50 years, Sonna; his brother, Richard; and | ||||||
20 | his sister, Mae Carstens; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, George Delhaye is survived by his sister, Maryann | ||||||
22 | (Delhaye) Shapuras; his brother-in-law, Bob Shapuras; his | ||||||
23 | sons, Jim (Christine) Delhaye and Gary (Laurie Danzl) Delhaye; |

1 | his daughter, Georgette (Charles) Sermersheim; his | ||||||
2 | grandchildren, Joey, Elly, and Maddy Sermersheim and Amy | ||||||
3 | Michelin; his great-grandchildren, Aubrie Michelin, Oliver, | ||||||
4 | and a great-granddaughter on the way; and several nieces, | ||||||
5 | nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

6 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
7 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
8 | George Delhaye and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
9 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
10 | further

11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to the family of George Delhaye as an expression of | ||||||
13 | our deepest sympathy.
