| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Dennis Keith Matthews of Nokomis, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on October 17, 2019; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Dennis Matthews was born during the Great | ||||||
| 6 | Depression on January 13, 1935 in rural Fillmore to Lonnie I. | ||||||
| 7 | and Opal R. (Funderburk) Matthews; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, During the 1950s, Dennis Matthews worked for a | ||||||
| 9 | variety of neighboring farmers and with his dad on the family | ||||||
| 10 | farm; he took a job at Allis Chalmers in Springfield and | ||||||
| 11 | married Joyce A. Volk on December 1, 1957; they made rural | ||||||
| 12 | Nokomis their home for 61 years; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, During the 1960s, Dennis Matthews continued | ||||||
| 14 | working at Allis Chalmers and farming; farming became full time | ||||||
| 15 | for him in the early 1970s with the addition of a swine | ||||||
| 16 | operation; his son Daniel began farming alongside him in the | ||||||
| 17 | 1980s; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Dennis Matthews was active in the community with | ||||||
| 19 | 4-H, the Nokomis School Board, the Nokomis School Booster Club, | ||||||
| 20 | the local grain elevator board, the Nokomis Lions Club, the | ||||||
| 21 | Masons, the Shriners, the MJM Rural Electric board, and Meals | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | on Wheels; he was elected Nokomis Township Supervisor; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Dennis Matthews was a strong person and a giving | ||||||
| 3 | human being; he was funny, mischievous, and hardworking and | ||||||
| 4 | expected everyone who worked with him to have a dedicated work | ||||||
| 5 | ethic; most of all, he loved his family and friends; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Dennis Matthews was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 7 | parents; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Dennis Matthews is survived by his wife, Joyce; | ||||||
| 9 | his brother, Darwin D. (Brenda J.) Matthews; his children, | ||||||
| 10 | Daniel Keith (Sydney Risser) Matthews and Dorothy Kay (John) | ||||||
| 11 | Padgett; his grandchildren, Jessica (Adam) Avera, Wesley | ||||||
| 12 | (Jenna) Matthews, Donald Padgett, and Keith Padgett; his | ||||||
| 13 | great-grandchildren, Sophie Stombaugh, Karter Kirkendoll, and | ||||||
| 14 | Maddox Matthews; numerous nieces and nephews; and many special | ||||||
| 15 | friends who are like family; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
| 17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 18 | Dennis Keith Matthews and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
| 19 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 20 | further
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
