| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Donald R. "Don" Moran of Savoy, who |
| 4 | | passed away on October 7, 2019; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Don Moran was born in Thomasboro to Patrick and |
| 6 | | Margaret (Benting) Moran on March 5, 1933; he graduated from |
| 7 | | Rantoul Grade School and Rantoul Township High School; he |
| 8 | | received his Bachelor of Science from Eastern Illinois |
| 9 | | University, his Master of Education from the University of |
| 10 | | Illinois, and a Certificate of College Business Management from |
| 11 | | the University of Kentucky; he served with the U.S. Army in the |
| 12 | | 2nd Armored Division in Germany and was awarded the Good |
| 13 | | Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Army |
| 14 | | of Occupation of Germany Medal; he married Judyth Tenenholtz in |
| 15 | | Hawaii in 1978; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Don Moran retired in 1988 as the business manager |
| 17 | | (vice president for finance) of Parkland College, where he had |
| 18 | | also served as assistant business manager and chairman of the |
| 19 | | business division; prior to that, he was a member of the |
| 20 | | business education faculty at Rantoul Township High School; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Don Moran earned the professional registration |
| 22 | | certificate for both school business official and school |
|

| 1 | | business administrator; he was a member (emeritus) of the |
| 2 | | Association of School Business Officials of the United States |
| 3 | | and Canada and the Illinois Association of School Business |
| 4 | | Officials; he served as a staff member of the Illinois |
| 5 | | Administrator's Academy – Retired Professionals Service Corps; |
| 6 | | and |
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Don Moran was a member of Chi Gamma Iota, Delta Pi |
| 8 | | Epsilon, the National Association of Retired Teachers, the |
| 9 | | Parkland College Foundation's Society of 1966, and the |
| 10 | | Livingston C. Lord Society of Eastern Illinois University; he |
| 11 | | was a former member of the Champaign and Urbana Chambers of |
| 12 | | Commerce, the Champaign Rotary Club, and the Illinois |
| 13 | | Association of Community College Business Administrators; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Don Moran was a past member of the church board of |
| 15 | | the Rantoul American Lutheran Church (1967-1970 and |
| 16 | | 1985-1987), the Rantoul High School Board of Education |
| 17 | | (1970-1973), the board of directors of the Illinois Association |
| 18 | | of Community Colleges (1979-1980), the village board of |
| 19 | | trustees of Thomasboro (1980-1985), the board of directors of |
| 20 | | the Champaign Chamber of Commerce (1982-1983), and the |
| 21 | | executive board of directors of the Champaign Rotary Club |
| 22 | | (1982-1983); he also served as treasurer of the Champaign |
| 23 | | Chamber of Commerce (1980-1982) and represented Rantoul |
| 24 | | Township High School District 193 on the Champaign-Ford |

| 1 | | Counties Educational Service Region Reorganization Committee; |
| 2 | | and |
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Don Moran had articles published in professional |
| 4 | | journals, where he reported on different teaching |
| 5 | | methodologies that he developed in teaching accounting |
| 6 | | concepts, typing techniques, and general business theories; he |
| 7 | | is listed in the 1974-1975 edition of Outstanding Educators of |
| 8 | | America and the 1980-1981 Who's Who in the Midwest; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Don Moran was inducted into the Rantoul Township |
| 10 | | High School Sports Hall of Fame in 1984; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Don Moran held a registered Class C federal |
| 12 | | Securities and Exchange Commission license; in 1989, he was |
| 13 | | appointed marketing representative for the Illinois School |
| 14 | | District Liquid Asset Fund's East Central Illinois Territory, |
| 15 | | an 11-county area of 122 public school districts; he retired in |
| 16 | | January of 1995; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Don Moran loved telling stories and had a wry |
| 18 | | sense of humor; he loved writing monthly Letters to the Editor |
| 19 | | in The News-Gazette; but most of all, he loved his family; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Don Moran was preceded in death by his parents and |
| 21 | | his sister, Bonnie Moran; and
|
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Don Moran is survived by his wife, Judyth; his |
| 2 | | daughters, Lisa Moran, Lori (Courtney) Cole, and Lynda |
| 3 | | (Douglas) Watterson; his brother, David Moran; his |
| 4 | | grandchildren, Jessica (Nick) Cole York, Jennifer (John) Cole |
| 5 | | Williams, Dallas (Erica) Watterson, and Justin Watterson; and |
| 6 | | his great-grandchildren, Lillian, Dexter, and Sawyer |
| 7 | | Watterson, Emma and Cole York, and Annabelle and Audrey |
| 8 | | Williams; therefore, be it
|
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
| 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 11 | | Donald R. "Don" Moran and extend our sincere condolences to his |
| 12 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
| 13 | | further

| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 15 | | presented to the family of Don Moran as an expression of our |
| 16 | | deepest sympathy.
