SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mary Lynn Borchardt of Ludlow, who passed
4away on October 18, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Borchardt was born in Oconto, Wisconsin to
6Clifford and Rosemary (Fabry) Rafoth on November 17, 1935; she
7graduated from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, where she
8majored in education; she received a master's degree in
9counseling and an administrative degree from Eastern
10University; she married Robert Edward Borchardt in Wausau,
11Wisconsin on June 19, 1959; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mary Borchardt taught kindergarten in South
13Dakota and at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota; she
14taught English in Turkey and then kindergarten again in
15Wichita, Kansas; she retired after over 30 years of teaching
16social studies at the junior high level and continued to sub at
17Thomasboro; she also could be found working at Swindford's
18Lottery Store, selling winning tickets; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Mary Borchardt was affectionately known as "Mrs.
20B"; she coached girls basketball, track, and softball; she
21enjoyed spending time with her family and loved to watch her
22son, Jon, and grandson, Josh, golf; after she retired from

1teaching, she continued to help Jackie with various school
2activities; she had a green thumb, which resulted in beautiful
3flower gardens; she loved to follow her Wisconsin Badgers and
4Green Bay Packers; her ability to relate to everyone she met
5was truly a gift; she always looked for the good in everyone,
6and, once she met someone, she never forgot them; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Mary Borchardt was preceded in death by her
8husband, Robert; her parents; and her brother, John Douglas
9Rafoth; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mary Borchardt is survived by her children, Jackie
11and Jon Borchardt; her sister, Jan (Len) Meissen; and her
12grandson, Joshua Borchardt; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Mary Lynn Borchardt and extend our sincere condolences to her
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Mary Borchardt as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
