|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of David L. Basala of Rock Island, who |
4 | | passed away on October 20, 2019; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, David Basala was born in Matherville to George Jr. |
6 | | and Luella Raisbeck Basala on September 23, 1929; he graduated |
7 | | from St. Bede Academy in Peru in 1946 and entered the United |
8 | | States Air Force on September 1, 1948; he was stationed in |
9 | | Alaska during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on |
10 | | July 23, 1952; he married Beverly Jean Hartman on September 13, |
11 | | 1952; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, David Basala worked as a carpenter for Deane Frye, |
13 | | Inc. in Aledo for many years; he retired in 1991 and became a |
14 | | caregiver for Beverly; he also served on the Matherville City |
15 | | Council for two years and as Mayor for 12 years; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, David Basala was a member of Matherville F.O.E. |
17 | | Aerie 2019 and enjoyed Wednesday night cards at the Eagles; he |
18 | | was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Anthony's Catholic |
19 | | Church in Matherville; he was known for having a "sweet tooth"; |
20 | | he loved attending church, playing cards, watching baseball and |
21 | | westerns, and spending time with his family; he was a die-hard |
22 | | Chicago Cubs fan; and

1 | | WHEREAS, David Basala was preceded in death by his wife of |
2 | | 58 years, Beverly; his parents; and his brothers, Robert, |
3 | | Donald, Marlyn, and John; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, David Basala is survived by his children, Nanette |
5 | | (Richard) Seith, David (Linda) Basala II, and Elizabeth (Keith) |
6 | | Gengler; his grandchildren, Eric Grawe, David Basala III, |
7 | | Nicholas Basala, Stephanie Hampton, Amanda Miller, David |
8 | | Smith, and Alexander Smith; eight great-grandchildren with one |
9 | | more on the way; his siblings, Lois (Deane) Frye, Dennis |
10 | | (Reeda) Basala, and James (Darlene) Basala; and his |
11 | | sisters-in-law, Marianne Basala and JoAnne Barnes; therefore, |
12 | | be it

13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
15 | | David L. Basala and extend our sincere condolences to his |
16 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
17 | | further

18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
19 | | presented to the family of David Basala as an expression of our |
20 | | deepest sympathy.
