2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Martin J. "Marty" Wieland, D.D.S. of |
4 | | Bloomington, who passed away on October 31, 2019; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Wieland was born in Bloomington to Martin H. |
6 | | and Margaret Walsh Wieland on April 21, 1929; he graduated from |
7 | | Holy Trinity High School in 1947 and earned his dental degree |
8 | | from St. Louis University in 1953; he served as a dentist in |
9 | | the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Boxer from 1953 to 1955; after |
10 | | completing his military service, he returned to Bloomington and |
11 | | married Margaret Ann Murray at Holy Trinity Church on June 29, |
12 | | 1957; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Wieland practiced dentistry in Bloomington |
14 | | for 46 years; he was a long-time member of the American Dental |
15 | | Association and the McLean County Dental Society; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Wieland retired to Florida in 2001 and married |
17 | | Marie Lawenda at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church in Sarasota |
18 | | on August 10, 2002; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Wieland was a member of the Young Men's Club |
20 | | and was the first president of the Holy Trinity Parish Council; |
21 | | he avidly followed the Chicago Cubs and especially enjoyed |

1 | | their 2016 season; he loved golf and was proud of his |
2 | | hole-in-one at the age of 72; he was a special person, a |
3 | | devoted husband, and a loving father, grandfather, and |
4 | | great-grandfather; he lived his life with kindness, humility, |
5 | | and integrity and always showed compassion to his family, |
6 | | friends, and patients; and |
7 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Wieland was preceded in death by his first |
8 | | wife, Margaret; his second wife, Marie; his parents; his |
9 | | cousins, Dave and Frank Brady; and his lifelong friends, Paula |
10 | | Downey Brady, and Roger and Diane Lehman; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Wieland is survived by his children, Kathleen |
12 | | (Alan) Brown, Martin Jr. (D.J.) Wieland, Dr. John (Kathy) |
13 | | Wieland, Molly (Steve) Moews, Trish (Chris) Roark, Michael |
14 | | (Michon) Wieland, and Melissa (Steve) Steinman; his |
15 | | grandchildren, Molly and Annie Brown, Jenna Wieland, Sean |
16 | | (Kate) Wieland, Drew Wieland, Maureen (Kevin) Brady, Maggie, |
17 | | Patrick, Clare, Brian, and Bridget Wieland, Mary Kate (Patrick) |
18 | | O'Brien, Oliver and McKay Moews, Sarah Elizabeth Anderson, |
19 | | Sarah Ann Roark, Cassie Wieland, Faith (Quinn) Storm, Caroline |
20 | | Wieland, Jack (Stephanie) Steinman, and Katie Steinman; his |
21 | | great-grandchildren, Jack and Mary Wieland, and James and |
22 | | Josiah Wieland; and his lifelong friend, Mary Jane O'Rourke |

1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
3 | | Martin J. "Marty" Wieland, D.D.S. and extend our sincere |
4 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
5 | | him; and be it further

6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to the family of Dr. Wieland as an expression of our |
8 | | deepest sympathy.
