SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Nikola "Nick" Kovacevic of Grayslake, who 
4passed away on November 1, 2019; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Nick Kovacevic was born to Frank and Amanda 
6(Vrkljan) Kovacevic in 1927 in the small village of Vranik, 
7Lika-Senj County, Croatia; he grew up on the family farm with 
8his parents and siblings; after mandatory service in the JNA 
9Army, he fled to Austria; after locating long lost relatives in 
10the U.S., he immigrated to America in 1959; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Nick Kovacevic met fellow Croatian immigrant 
12Marija "Mary" Bobic at a Baptism celebration hosted by mutual 
13friends; they married in April of  1968 and settled in North 
14Chicago, eventually moving to Grayslake; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Nick Kovacevic retired from Abbott Laboratories 
16in 1991 with over 30 years of service; he and his wife worked 
17tirelessly at their jobs and at an apartment building they 
18purchased to make a better life for themselves and their two 
19children; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Nick Kovacevic loved his vegetable garden, often 
21sharing the tomatoes and peppers with friends and neighbors; he

1was a long-standing member of the American Croatian Waukegan 
2Tamburitzans and Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 848, where he 
3served as lodge secretary for many years; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Nick Kovacevic was preceded in death by his wife, 
5Marija; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Nick Kovacevic is survived by his son, John 
7Kovacevic; his daughter, Mary Kovacevic (Scott Beam); his 
8grandson, Robert Nicholas; his sisters, Marija (Robert) 
9Asbille and Kata Sikic; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, 
10be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL 
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
13Nikola "Nick" Kovacevic and extend our sincere condolences to 
14his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
15further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to  the family of  Nick Kovacevic as an expression of 
18our deepest sympathy.
