2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Dorothy Mae "Dottie" Brown of Joliet at |
4 | | the age of 96; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Dottie Brown was born in Joliet to Frank and Rose |
6 | | Maxwell in 1923; she graduated from Joliet Township High School |
7 | | in 1941; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, During World War II, Dottie Brown worked at the |
9 | | Joliet Arsenal in Manhattan while her future husband, LaVerne |
10 | | "Bitz" Brown, served in the military; after the war, they were |
11 | | married at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, In 1948, Dottie Brown and her husband along with |
13 | | their high school friends Paul and Vicki Lambrecht formed Brown |
14 | | and Lambrecht Earthmovers; the company grew to become a major |
15 | | regional civil contractor, providing gainful employment to |
16 | | thousands of individuals throughout Illinois and the Midwest; |
17 | | and |
18 | | WHEREAS, For the last 60 years, Dottie Brown supported a |
19 | | number of local non-profit service organizations, including |
20 | | the Joliet Area Community Hospice, the Sisters of St. Francis |
21 | | of Mary Immaculate, the University of St. Francis, Lewis |

1 | | University, Joliet Catholic Academy, Providence High School, |
2 | | the Silver Cross Foundation, St. Joseph Hospital, |
3 | | Childerguild, and the Diocese of Joliet; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Dottie Brown was a lifelong parishioner at St. |
5 | | John the Baptist Catholic Church; she and her husband were |
6 | | strong advocates for Joliet and Will County and will be |
7 | | remembered for their philanthropy and tireless dedication to |
8 | | local education, health care, and service to those in need; |
9 | | From humble beginnings, she was continuously grateful for her |
10 | | life's blessings; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Dottie Brown was preceded in death by her husband |
12 | | of 67 years, LaVerne "Bitz" Brown; her parents; her brother, |
13 | | Frank (Betty) Maxwell; her sister, Lorraine (Jim) Bily; her |
14 | | parents-in-law, Seward and Florence Brown; her brother-in-law, |
15 | | Wayne Brown; her sister-in-law, Joan (LaVerne "Chip") Vollmer; |
16 | | and her niece, Marybeth Dopudja; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Dottie Brown is survived by her nieces, Candy |
18 | | (Mike) Wagner, Cindy (Jeff Berry) Bily, Marcia Maxwell, Sharon |
19 | | (Jack) Tweedle, and Susan (John) Reed; her nephews, James (Emi) |
20 | | Brown, Michael (Janine) Vollmer, Mark (Jan) Maxwell, Jim |
21 | | (Linda) Bily, Tim (Nadine) Bily, Mike (Christy Ford) Bily, and |
22 | | Patrick (Julie) Bily; her cousin, Marlene Walker; numerous |
23 | | great-nieces and great-nephews; her loving caregivers, |

4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
5 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
6 | | Dorothy Mae "Dottie" Brown and extend our sincere condolences |
7 | | to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be |
