2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of former Illinois State Representative John |
4 | | C. "Jack"
McGuire, who passed away on January 2, 2020 at the |
5 | | age of 86; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire was born in Joliet to Emmett and |
7 | | Mildred McGuire on May 12, 1933; he
was a parishioner of St. |
8 | | Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Joliet; he graduated from |
9 | | Joliet
Catholic High School in 1951; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire attended Joliet Junior College and |
11 | | was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame; he entered the |
12 | | United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the |
13 | | Korean War;
he enrolled in Colorado State College after |
14 | | completing his tour and graduated in 1958; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire was a member of American Legion Post |
16 | | 1080, the Irish-American Society of
County Will, and Cantigny |
17 | | Post 367 VFW; he volunteered for Meals On Wheels and |
18 | | Cornerstone, as
well as various other community organizations; |
19 | | and |
20 | | WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire was elected as a Democratic member to |
21 | | the Illinois House of Representatives;
he represented the 86th |

1 | | District from 1990 to April 2012 and served as Assistant |
2 | | Majority Leader; he was a former Chairman of the House Aging |
3 | | Committee and a champion of senior issues; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire received the 2012 Larry Walsh |
5 | | Lifetime Achievement Award from the Will County Democratic |
6 | | Central Committee; prior to his
election to the House of |
7 | | Representatives, he served as Supervisor in Joliet Township |
8 | | from 1982 to 1991 and as a Trustee
from 1973 to 1982; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire was an avid runner and completed the |
10 | | Chicago Marathon in 1986; he loved golf
and taking family trips |
11 | | with all of his grandchildren to Siesta Key, Florida and South |
12 | | Haven, Michigan; he
also enjoyed attending Joliet Catholic |
13 | | football games on Friday nights; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire was preceded in death by his wife, |
15 | | Marilyn J. "Mitzi" (Miller); his parents; his
son, Thomas L. |
16 | | McGuire; his brother, Paul McGuire; his sister, Helen La Barre; |
17 | | and his second wife, Patricia; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire is survived by his children, Kathleen |
19 | | A. (John) Dougherty, Michael E.
McGuire, and Julie A. (Thomas) |
20 | | Sicinski; his grandchildren, Jillian (Sean Whitney), Patrick |
21 | | and Michael
Dougherty, Thomas, Patrick (Liz), Michael (Amy), |
22 | | and Sean McGuire, and Alexander, Stephanie, Emily, and
Zachary |
