2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Margaret "Peggy" Johnson of Danville, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on December 24, 2019; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Peggy Johnson was born to Bill and Maryellen | ||||||
6 | (Morrissey) Harmon on November 4, 1952; she spent her youth in | ||||||
7 | New Orleans, Louisiana and graduated from Archbishop Chapelle | ||||||
8 | High School in 1970; she moved back to
Danville in 1974 and | ||||||
9 | married Glenn R. Johnson at St. Paul's Catholic Church
in | ||||||
10 | Danville
on October 11, 1975; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Peggy Johnson started her career as a volunteer | ||||||
12 | with the YWCA Women's Shelter in Danville; she was a court | ||||||
13 | advocate and voice for
women and children who were the victims | ||||||
14 | of domestic abuse; she then became the program
coordinator for | ||||||
15 | the YWCA Women's Shelter and Sexual Assault Crisis Services; | ||||||
16 | she worked for the YWCA Women's Shelter for
almost 12 years; | ||||||
17 | she served as Deputy Coroner in 1993
and was appointed to Chief | ||||||
18 | Deputy Coroner a year later; in 1999, she was appointed | ||||||
19 | Vermilion County Coroner and was
elected to the position in | ||||||
20 | 2000, serving the community for the next 16 years; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Peggy Johnson was a member of the Business and | ||||||
22 | Professional Women's Foundation, AMBUCS, the YMCA board, the |
| |||||||
| |||||||
1 | Illinois Coroners and Medical
Examiners Association, and the | ||||||
2 | Illinois Association of County Officials; she regularly | ||||||
3 | volunteered to give lectures at local schools
about her career; | ||||||
4 | and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Peggy Johnson loved to give out free hugs and | ||||||
6 | never met a stranger; after retiring from her position, she | ||||||
7 | enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and rarely | ||||||
8 | missed watching her Cubbies play; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Peggy Johnson was preceded in death by her | ||||||
10 | parents; her brother, Jack Harmon; her sister, Anne Harmon; her | ||||||
11 | nephew, John David Harmon; and her
lifelong friend Bill Hagler; | ||||||
12 | and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Peggy Johnson is survived by her spouse, Glenn; | ||||||
14 | her sons, David (Haley McKenzie) and Jesse (Rebecca)
Johnson; | ||||||
15 | her daughter, Sarah Johnson; her brothers, Pat (Patti), Mike | ||||||
16 | (Rita), and Tom Harmon; her sister, Suzie (Dale) Salonen; her | ||||||
17 | grandchildren, Audrey and Carson Strawser; and her special | ||||||
18 | friends and family,
Nancy Harmon and Shelly Stout; therefore, | ||||||
19 | be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
22 | Margaret "Peggy" Johnson and extend our sincere condolences to |

1 | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
