2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Susie A. Barber, who passed away on |
4 | | December 16, 2019; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Susie Barber was born in Alcoa, Tennessee to |
6 | | Howell and Lillian (Carson) Kellogg on August 25, 1943; she |
7 | | received her education in the Lockport Public School system; |
8 | | and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Susie Barber worked for Western Electric as a |
10 | | tech; she served as International Representative for I.B.E.W. |
11 | | until she retired; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Susie Barber was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist |
13 | | Church since she was young; she served as chair of the Joliet |
14 | | Housing Authority and became the first African American Council |
15 | | Woman for the city of Joliet; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Susie Barber was preceded in death by her husband |
17 | | of 58 years, Donald "Blue" Barber; her parents; her sisters, |
18 | | Mary Gant, Johnnie Booker, and Barbara Ann Kellogg; her son, |
19 | | Donald White; her grandchildren, Akiya and Jonathan; her |
20 | | brother-in-law, Wilbert Barber; her sisters-in-law, Geraldine |
21 | | Barber and Delores Waddell; her nieces, Tammy Davis, Cynthia |

1 | | Booker, and Tamala Clayton; and her nephew, Louis Barber; and

2 | | WHEREAS, Susie Barber is survived by her son, Shadon |
3 | | (Tanya) Barber; her daughter, Maria Currie; her grandchildren, |
4 | | Marcus, Gentry, Diane, Jason, Brittani, Adia, Felencia, Ado, |
5 | | Shadonta, Vincent, Brandon, Jaelen, and Jada; her |
6 | | God-daughter, Tashanna "Co-Co" Taylor; her brother-in-law, |
7 | | Eugene (Glory) Barber; her sisters-in-law, Shirley Barber, |
8 | | Earline Barber, and JoAnn Whitehead; numerous |
9 | | great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; |
10 | | her special nieces, Pam Gant and Khristy Maberry; and her |
11 | | special nephews, James Gant, Will McClellan, and James Booker; |
12 | | therefore, be it

13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
15 | | Susie A. Barber and extend our sincere condolences to her |
16 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
17 | | further

18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
19 | | presented to the family of Susie Barber as an expression of our |
20 | | deepest sympathy.
