2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Mary Agnes "Midge" Langfelder of |
4 | | Springfield, who passed away on December 30, 2019; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Mary Langfelder was born in Springfield to Ritter |
6 | | and Nellie (Manning) Dunham on January 19, 1931; in 1948, she |
7 | | attended St. Francis College in Lafayette, Indiana and then the |
8 | | School of the Art Institute of Chicago for one year; she |
9 | | married Oswald "Ossie" Langfelder at St. Joseph Church in |
10 | | Springfield on June 14, 1952; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Mary Langfelder and her husband raised 13 |
12 | | children; 40 years later, she returned to college and earned |
13 | | her associate's degree in art from Lincoln Land Community |
14 | | College in 1993; she was a member of the first graduating class |
15 | | from the University of Illinois Springfield in 1998, earning a |
16 | | bachelor's degree in visual arts; she became the first |
17 | | recipient of the UIS Lifelong Learner Award and went on to |
18 | | teach art at St. Agnes Elementary School from 2001 until 2009; |
19 | | and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Mary Langfelder lived a life of service; she was a |
21 | | dedicated member of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, a board |
22 | | member of the YWCA, a founding board member of the Mini |

1 | | O'Beirne Crisis Nursery, and a member of the Prairie Art |
2 | | Alliance; she was a strong supporter of Ursuline Academy, the |
3 | | Griffin band, and various other organizations; she enjoyed art, |
4 | | traveling, playing bridge, being outdoors, carrying on the |
5 | | Dunham family tradition of hosting chili dinners on Saturdays, |
6 | | attending Springfield events, Broadway shows, and baseball; |
7 | | she was a humble and caring person; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Mary Langfelder was preceded in death by her |
9 | | husband, Ossie; her parents; her sisters, Rita Blasko and Jean |
10 | | Delaney; her brothers, Johnny, James, and Pete Dunham; and her |
11 | | son-in-law, Steve Baker; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Mary Langfelder is survived by her children, Joan |
13 | | Baker, Jamie (Jim) Cour, John (Nancy Bahre), Joseph (Gale), |
14 | | Judy (Dennis) Shackelford, Jim (Billie), Jackie (Al) Yoho, Jay |
15 | | Paul (Amy), Janice Davis, Jeannie (Larry) Rockford, Joshua |
16 | | (Angie), Jacob (John Carrara), and Julia (Dustin) Frevert; 31 |
17 | | grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, with 2 on the way; her |
18 | | sisters, Margaret Lemanski and Judy Ansell; her sister-in-law, |
19 | | Edith Raven; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; |
20 | | therefore, be it
