2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
|
3 | | learn of the death of Colonel William T. "Bill" Green (Ret.) of |
4 | | Rock Island, who passed away on December 26, 2019; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, COL Green was born in Moline to Charles and Cora |
6 | | (Hermann) Green on January 11, 1932; he married the love of his |
7 | | life, Marvel Ingram, at the First Methodist Church in Moline on |
8 | | May 12, 1956; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, COL Green was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952; |
10 | | he spent the next 27 years in the military, serving foreign |
11 | | tours in Germany, Japan, Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam, in |
12 | | addition to numerous domestic assignments; he received a number |
13 | | of decorations; he graduated from the U.S. Army Command and |
14 | | General Staff College, U.S. Army War College, and Florida |
15 | | Institute of Technology, from which he received his master's |
16 | | degree; he served in several key posts during his career, |
17 | | including the Joint U.S. Military Assistance Command in |
18 | | Bangkok, Thailand, the General Staff for the U.S. Army in |
19 | | Vietnam, and as a battalion commander in Vietnam; he retired |
20 | | from the Army in 1979 as Chief of Staff, HQ ARRCOM at the Rock |
21 | | Island Arsenal; and
|
22 | | WHEREAS, Following his Army career, COL Green worked at |
|

1 | | Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric Co.; he retired as a Senior Vice |
2 | | President in 1994; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, COL Green was as proud to serve his country and |
4 | | family as he was to support his community; he was involved in |
5 | | numerous industry, professional, and civic organizations, |
6 | | including the Rock Island Rotary, the Quad City Junior |
7 | | Achievement, the American Red Cross, United Way, the First |
8 | | National Bank of the Quad Cities Board, the Trinity Health |
9 | | Foundation, the Illinois Quad City Chamber of Commerce, the |
10 | | Illowa Boy Scout Council, the Development Association of Rock |
11 | | Island, Rejuvenate Davenport, the Metropolitan Youth Program, |
12 | | Arrowhead Ranch, and the Quad Cities Graduate Studies Center; |
13 | | he was selected as King of the Junior Board of Rock Island's |
14 | | Mardi Gras in 1989, its 50th anniversary; he also enjoyed his |
15 | | memberships at the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club and the |
16 | | Davenport Outing Club; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, COL Green was preceded in death by his parents and |
18 | | a brother, Charles Green; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, COL Green is survived by his wife, Marvel; |
20 | | children, Stacia (Mike) Campbell, Tom (Sally) Green), and |
21 | | Stefani (Danny) Miner; grandchildren, Maeve and Hayley |
22 | | Campbell, and Benjamin and Jonathan Green, and Lindsey and |
23 | | Garrett Miner; therefore, be it

1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
3 | | Colonel William T. "Bill" Green (Ret.) and extend our sincere |
4 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
5 | | him; and be it further

6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
|
7 | | presented to the family of Colonel Green as an expression
of |
8 | | our deepest sympathy.
