| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
| ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Gregory A. Carmouche of Chicago, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on September 3, 2019; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Gregory Carmouche was born in Chicago to Cleveland | ||||||
| 6 | and Murel (Jacobs) Carmouche on November 16, 1952; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Gregory Carmouche was a passionate and | ||||||
| 8 | accomplished musician, who played professionally as a | ||||||
| 9 | percussionist: he was a band leader for over 40 years, leading | ||||||
| 10 | the Chicago-based Afro-Caribbean jazz group currently known as | ||||||
| 11 | Pa-Ti for the last 20 years; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, In the warmer months, Gregory Carmouche would lead | ||||||
| 13 | impromptu public jam sessions with fellow instrumentalists at | ||||||
| 14 | Chicago's various parks and beaches, bringing joy to the city; | ||||||
| 15 | he was a regular performer at 63rd Street Beach; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, As a musician, Greg toured the world with Curtis | ||||||
| 17 | Mayfield and worked with celebrated artists, including Donny | ||||||
| 18 | Hathaway, Ledisi, Maysa, Gerald Albright, Jean-Paul Bourelly, | ||||||
| 19 | and many others; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, When he was not playing music, Greg Carmouche | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | worked in the construction industry; he contributed his energy | ||||||
| 2 | and talents to a number of landmark buildings in the Chicago | ||||||
| 3 | area; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Gregory Carmouche was well-known in the community | ||||||
| 5 | for his positive thinking, his self-determination, and as a | ||||||
| 6 | genuine voice for the arts; he will be sorely missed for his | ||||||
| 7 | energy, his humor, his leadership, and his passion for life, | ||||||
| 8 | music, and family; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Gregory Carmouche was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 10 | parents, Cleveland and Murel (Jacobs) Carmouche; his brother, | ||||||
| 11 | Rhahim Khalil (Cleveland Carmouche Jr); and his sisters, | ||||||
| 12 | Barbara and Patricia Carmouche; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Gregory Carmouche is survived by his brothers, | ||||||
| 14 | Allen and Reginald Carmouche; his sister, Johnnie Carmouche; | ||||||
| 15 | and several nieces and nephews who he cherished like his own | ||||||
| 16 | children; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
| 18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 19 | Gregory A. Carmouche and extend our sincere
condolences to his | ||||||
| 20 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it | ||||||
| 21 | further

| 2 | presented to the family of Gregory Carmouche as an expression | ||||||
