2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of the Honorable Ronald Chris "Ron" Dozier |
4 | | of Bloomington, who passed away on February 3, 2020; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Judge Dozier was born in Mill Shoals to John and |
6 | | Wave (Garrett) Dozier on October 20, 1946; he served in the |
7 | | U.S. Army during the Vietnam War; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Judge Dozier was McLean County's top prosecutor |
9 | | from 1976 to 1987; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Judge Dozier was appointed a judge in 1987 and |
11 | | served on the bench until his retirement in 2006; during that |
12 | | time, he worked hard to craft sentences that took into account |
13 | | the full lives of those appearing in front of him; he crafted a |
14 | | reputation as a tough but fair prosecutor and judge who was |
15 | | guided by his deep faith and country upbringing in deep |
16 | | southern Illinois; he also worked with the Joy Care Center, a |
17 | | nonprofit that helped ex-offenders break the chains of |
18 | | recidivism and become productive members of society; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Judge Dozier stayed busy in retirement; he worked |
20 | | as a reserve deputy for the McLean County Sheriff's Department |
21 | | and briefly returned to lead the McLean County State's |

1 | | Attorney's Office from 2011 to 2012; and
|
2 | | WHEREAS, Judge Dozier was preceded in death by his father, |
3 | | John Dozier; his mother survived him but passed shortly after |
4 | | he did; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Judge Dozier is survived by his wife of over 50 |
6 | | years, Jackie (Liles) Dozier; his children, Ross (Kate), Kent |
7 | | (Tawnya), Mark (Abi), and Drew (Katie); his grandchildren, |
8 | | Ashlyn, Aidan, Araceli, Bruce, Garret, Kevin, Mireya, Lily, |
9 | | Tanner, Eli, and Eleni; his brothers, Larry (Marti) Dozier, |
10 | | Harlan Dozier, and Ivan (Michelle) Dozier; and his sisters, |
11 | | Audrey (Dan) Lemke, Anita (Lindy) Caldwell, and Mary Dozier; |
12 | | therefore, be it

13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
15 | | the Honorable Ronald Chris "Ron" Dozier and extend our sincere |
16 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
17 | | him; and be it further

18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
19 | | presented to the family of Judge Dozier as an expression of our |
20 | | deepest sympathy.
