2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of George Duane Tomlinson of West Frankfort, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on January 23, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, George Tomlinson was born to George and Bernice | ||||||
6 | Tomlinson in Benton on January 6, 1931; during his high school | ||||||
7 | years he worked with his uncle on the Tomlinson Windy Hills | ||||||
8 | Farms; he graduated from Frankfort Community High School in | ||||||
9 | 1948 and then attended Iowa State University, where he earned a | ||||||
10 | bachelor's degree in animal husbandry in 1952; he then served | ||||||
11 | two years in the U.S. Army; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, George Tomlinson developed a deep experience, | ||||||
13 | expertise, and reputation as a cattleman; for more than 70 | ||||||
14 | years, he spent almost every day of his life on the land; he | ||||||
15 | remained actively involved in the management of Tomlinson Windy | ||||||
16 | Hill Farms until his death and was highly regarded regionally, | ||||||
17 | statewide, and nationally as a leader in the purebred Black | ||||||
18 | Angus cattle industry; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, For a brief period, George Tomlinson was senior | ||||||
20 | vice president and director at the First Community Bank of West | ||||||
21 | Frankfort; always with a heart for farmers, he spent much of | ||||||
22 | his time there assisting farmers with financing and |

1 | restructuring; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, George Tomlinson was a proud member of the West | ||||||
3 | Frankfort Lions Club and the West Frankfort Moose Club and | ||||||
4 | served on the Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation Board | ||||||
5 | and the Greater Egypt Regional Planning and Development | ||||||
6 | Commission; he served for many years on the West Frankfort | ||||||
7 | Community Council, of which his uncle "Tommy" Tomlinson was a | ||||||
8 | founding member; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, George Tomlinson had an enduring sense of | ||||||
10 | curiosity and was well versed on any subject; he was an avid | ||||||
11 | reader and enjoyed watching documentaries, sports and the news; | ||||||
12 | he loved tending to his fruit trees and flowers; he was a | ||||||
13 | lifelong learner with a clear and active mind until the end; | ||||||
14 | and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, George Tomlinson was preceded in death by his wife | ||||||
16 | of 57 years, Deanna (Sukoski); his parents, George and Bernice | ||||||
17 | Tomlinson; and his younger siblings, John "David" Tomlinson and | ||||||
18 | Jean Ann Patterson; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, George Tomlinson is survived by his children, | ||||||
20 | Martha (Bob) Tomlinson Gusentine, George Prentiss Tomlinson, | ||||||
21 | and Thomas "Tommy" Edward Tomlinson; his sister, Mary Ellen | ||||||
22 | Tatter; his six grandchildren, Mary, Jacob, Annemarie, |

1 | Elizabeth, Cate, and George; his sisters-in-law, Mary Beth | ||||||
2 | (Richard) Breeden and Carol Grace; his many nephews and nieces, | ||||||
3 | and his beloved and faithful dog, Tank; therefore, be it

4 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| ||||||
6 | George Duane Tomlinson and extend our sincere
condolences to | ||||||
7 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it | ||||||
8 | further

9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| ||||||
10 | presented to the family of George Tomlinson as an expression of
| ||||||
11 | our deepest sympathy.
