SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Margie Pearl "Itty" Gavin-Woods of Will
4County, who passed away on January 29, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Margie Gavin-Woods was the third of four siblings;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Margie Gavin-Woods was among the first group of
8women hired at Caterpillar Inc.; she worked there for 30 years;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Margie Gavin-Woods was deeply committed to
11helping her community, serving as both a Will County Board
12member and the Forest Preserve Commissioner for 28 years; she
13had the distinguished honor to serve as a Super Delegate at the
14Democratic National Convention in 2008, casting her vote for
15the soon-to-be elected president, Barack Obama; she also served
16as chairman of the Healthy Community Committee for Silver Cross
17Hospital until her death; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Margie Gavin-Woods was preceded in death by her
19parents; her brother, Willie C. Gavin; her sister, Myrtis
20Moffett; and her grandson, Quentin Woods; and

1    WHEREAS, Margie Gavin-Woods is survived by her husband of
249 years, Floyd Woods Sr.; her sister, Denise (Jerry) King; her
3children, Brian Clarkson, Shawn (Sharon) Clarkson, Kevin
4(Nicole) Griffin, Danielle Selena (Anthony) McCullum, Sallie
5Griffin, Michael Woods, Michelle Woods, and Floyd (Tonya)
6Woods; her special niece, Kimberly Moffett; her goddaughter,
7Najee' Williams; her sisters-in-law, Monica Savage Woods, Lucy
8Ann Woods, Doris Gavin, and Patsy Gavin; her 26 grandchildren;
9her 35 great-grandchildren; her 2 great-great-grandchildren;
10and her numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Margie Pearl "Itty" Gavin-Woods and extend our sincere
15condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
16her; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Margie Gavin-Woods as an expression
19of our deepest sympathy.
